Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning public agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational programs, classes, and events, as well as facilities, parks, and open spaces. The Human Resources Department supports nearly 100 full-time employees and as many as 1,000 part-time and seasonal employees throughout the year.

JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for a wide array of district-wide human resources activities, including recruitment, pre-employment screening, interactive assessments, new hire onboarding, training & development, compensation, benefits, leaves of absence, ADA requests and interactive process, employee relations and internal investigations, employee satisfaction surveys, retention strategies, employee recognition programs, employee wellness programs, HRIS and employee data, record-keeping, internal communication, supervisor coaching, performance management, disciplinary actions & terminations, employment policies, legal compliance, union relations, strategic HR goals and initiatives, change management, crisis management, and more. This position also chairs the dynamic Health & Safety Committee and oversees district-wide safety initiatives and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS
The best applicants will have a bachelor’s degree preferably in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Sociology, or other related area. Master’s degree in human resources or another related field preferred. 10+ years of relevant full-time work experience required. SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification preferred. Other requirements include the ability to build rapport, establish and sustain positive working relationships with a wide variety of employees; a high level of confidentiality, impartiality, and trust; strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, and writing skills; attention to detail, critical thinking and problem solving; ability to be self-directed and meet deadlines; excellent judgment and decision-making. Must have valid Illinois driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.

PAY, BENEFITS & WORK SCHEDULE
This is a full-time year-round exempt position. Target hiring range is $110,000 to $120,000 per year DOQ (depending on qualifications). Schedule is generally Monday through Friday 8:30am – 5pm. Additional work may be required as necessary. Our full-time benefits package includes:

Job Duties Essential Functions:
  1. Will be responsible for compiling a complete inventory of all parks in the community.
  2. Will be the main point of contact for Men’s Summer Softball league. Attends to the weekly operational needs and statistical updates of softball league. Provides weekly updates to all teams and manages needs as they arise, including stocking first aid kits, ordering softballs and managing game protests.
  3. Assists in collection of sponsorships and donations for the department.
  4. Attends to the daily operational needs the Parks & Rec department, including multiple daily trips to locations for supplies and program evaluations, photos etc.
  5. Works ALL special events, including Memorial Day Procession, Unplug & Play, Lunch on the Lawn, Movies in the Park, Pool Special Events, July 4th, etc.
  6. Assists with program registrations and pass sales, including periods of intensive computer processing with custom registration system.
  7. Weekly visits to programs held at local parks, ensuring program quality. Programs are held at various locations.
  8. Assists with production of the seasonal program brochure and editing.
  9. Assists in management of social media marketing, specifically Facebook and Instagram.
  10. Performs any additional errands or duties as related to department needs. This may include purchasing candy or bottled water for July 4th, printer ink for the pool, organizing storage spaces, etc.

JOB SUMMARY: The Recreation-Athletics Intern is responsible to the Faculty Advisor for all educational or internship requirements as well as the Recreation Superintendent and Supervisor for the programs and operations assigned for the internship. This is an at-will position. Primary duties include:
  • Aid in directing programs that satisfy the needs of the community.
  • Assist in the organization, implementation and administration of athletic programs and leagues, gymnastics, fitness center and the Grove Pilates Studio.
  • Assist supervisor to organize, schedule and supervise sports fields, gymnastics gym, fitness center and Pilates studio.
  • Become familiar with the District’s policies, procedures and operations. 
  • Analyze programs, practices and procedures, record keeping systems, forms and personnel requirements.
  • Study all program needs and take action to improve.
  • Meet the full-time staff and learn about planning and supervising recreational programs, as well as other areas in the District.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships among staff.
  • Responsible for supervision of the Community Center as assigned.
  • Work with other staff to implement programming and facility usage as assigned. 
  • Develop rapport with program participants and parents.
  • Keep intern reports, accident forms, and attend meetings as assigned.
  • Assist in program set-ups as needed.
  • Teach or coach programs as needed.
  • Become familiar with equipment and see that is properly maintained.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must currently be working towards a college degree in Parks and Recreation or related field with a minimum of two years of undergraduate coursework completed. Must be a self-motivated and professional individual with strong communication and organizational skills. Prior knowledge and experience working with sports, leagues and/or teams is a plus.
 
SCHEDULE & PAY: This is a part-time, seasonal summer position running May to August. Hours designed to satisfy school requirements, Monday-Friday between 9am and 5pm along with some evening and weekend hours as required. Hiring rate is $14 per hour, dependent upon qualifications. Plus applicable facility and program discounts.

The Community House is excited to offer a professional internship to students working toward a degree within the field of parks and recreation. This internship opportunity runs 8-13 consecutive weeks and usually starts a few weeks before the start of our summer programs. Under the supervision and guidance of the Program Director and The Community House Recreation Supervisors, the Recreation intern will have the opportunity to expand their education. Interns are exposed to all areas of operations, from administration, budgeting, leadership, staff management, programming, special events, and facility/maintenance. Students will be provided the opportunity to integrate and apply knowledge, to the following programs: Summer Day Camps, Leagues, Sports Camps, Art Programming, Special Events, Enrichment Camps, and Active Adult/Senior Programs.

Duties:

• Work in areas of program development, written and oral communication, budgeting, training/management of employees, evaluation of both programs & personnel, marketing and special events.

• Experience registration software processes, financial reporting and brochure proofing.

• Gain direct leadership experience by conducting programs and special events.

• Plans, prepares and participates in recreation programs and special events.

• Assists with the planning, set-up, execution and tear down of special events.

• Responsible for the well-being, safety and care of children and youth attending programs.

• Responsible for creating a fun and energetic environment for the program participants on a daily basis.

• Work in a team-based environment supporting the Recreation Team.

• Interact with guests, parents, and participants in a positive and professional manner, utilizing excellent guest service standards.

• Maintain professional attitudes and relationships with parents, participants, and co-workers.

• Adhere to The Community House rules and regulations including proper attire, safety procedures, and overall professionalism.

• Participate in safety training and respond to emergencies in an appropriate manner.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Be currently enrolled, or a recent graduate of a university or junior college pursuing or having completed a degree in Parks & Recreation, Youth Programming, Sports Management or similar field.

• To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

• Must be able to respectfully and effectively communicate with fellow staff, program participants, and facility users of all ages.

• Must have current CPR / AED and First Aid certification by hire date or be able to attend The Community House training to become certified).

Hours:

Intern hours will vary, depending on the weekly activities and special events; however, the Intern will work approximately 25-40 hours per week, including nights and weekends when needed. The schedule is usually Monday through Friday but may vary, depending on the weekly activities and special events.
