JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Director of Facilities, the Blackberry Farm Maintenance Manager, must be sufficiently skilled to perform a wide variety of maintenance tasks including facility and grounds maintenance, ride operation/maintenance without supervision.  This position will be required to hire, train, schedule, supervise, coach, and develop assigned part-time staff. This position shall work collaboratively with other full-time staff that report to other Recreation and Operations management staff in providing an outstanding guest experience at Blackberry Farm. This is an at-will position. Must be available for afternoons, evenings and weekends

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

High School graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required, College Degree Preferred.  Must have 5 years of grounds and facility maintenance experience, including supervising others. Ability to multi-task with good customer service and communication skills required.  Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite via both mobile and desktop devices and the ability to learn other software applications. Knowledge and experience in the proper use of hand and power tools and equipment to perform assigned tasks. Must be in good physical condition to accomplish manual labor, strenuous at times, in all types of weather conditions including extreme heat, humidity, and cold. Must be able to work a non-traditional schedule with flexible days and hours with overtime during the height of the season with a 7-day operation. Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License.

The Downers Grove Park District is seeking a Maintenance team member to provide a full range of general maintenance, construction, and development of parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, structures, roads, paths, parking lots, utilities, drainage, restroom and concession buildings, fleet vehicles, and other property owned and managed by the District.

 This is a full-time non-exempt position with benefits: medical, dental, and vision insurance, PTO, IMRF pension, retirement savings plan, and employee assistance.  This position is represented by Local 681 of the Laborers’ International Union of North America.

Pay Rate: $21.67 per hour

Hours: This is a full-time, year-round, hourly position. Schedule is generally Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and night/weekend work as required as part of an on-call rotation. This position may also require to work with special events.

Requirements:
  • Familiarity and understanding of general grounds procedures for the care and upkeep of turf, irrigation, trees, shrubs and athletic field preparation.
  • Ability to respond to changing priorities; respond to emergency calls at night and on weekends as assigned.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to make plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry installations and repairs.
  • Must be skilled in the safe use of tools, materials and equipment.
  • Must have the ability and knowledge necessary to safely and expeditiously perform maintenance duties or moderate complexity.
  • Ability to withstand extensive standing, stooping, squatting, pushing and pulling, and perform work in all weather conditions with exposure to pollens and other allergens.
  • Have a current Illinois Pesticide Operator's License or obtain one within 6 months of employment (paid for by the District)
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license
  • CPR/AED certification is required within the first three months of employment (paid for by the District)
  • Grounds or Parks maintenance experience preferred

Duties include but are not limited to inspections, cleaning, and repairs of the pool, implements and pool deck area. This is an at-will position.

WHAT YOU’LL DO: The Coverage position performs a wide variety of park maintenance tasks along with the regularly assigned duties of trash collection, managing the district-wide tree ring and landscape bed mulching program, and assisting with special projects. In addition to the defined duties the position will act as coverage in the absence of assigned staff due to vacation, illness, or vacancies. Dependent on the nature of the assignment the position may direct 1 to 5 seasonal staff members. Other duties include- special events, mowing, athletic field maintenance, horticulture, inspections, snow removal, and general park maintenance.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
  • 2-3 years of park maintenance experience and the ability to operate associated equipment is preferred.
  • A State of Illinois Pesticide Operator’s License and Class “C” driver’s license are required within 6 months of hire.

WHEN YOU’LL WORK:
  • Monday through Friday from 6:30am-3:00pm with additional hours for snow removal and special events.
