Job Description: The Superintendent of Recreation oversees all operations of the Recreation Department, which is located within the Byron Community School District. The facilities consist of the Byron PE Center and outdoor athletic fields. The program areas are Aquatics, Athletics, Child Care, Fine Arts, Fitness, and Special Events.

Qualifications: • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in recreation administration or related field is required.
• At least two years of full-time experience in the field of parks and recreation.
• A valid Illinois State Driver’s License (Class D) is required. • Thorough knowledge of budgeting, purchasing, and reporting processes. • Thorough knowledge of computer applications including MS Office Suite and recreation management software.

Duties & Responsibilities: • Direct oversight of an approximately $700,000 annual recreation department budget. • Hire, train, and supervise as necessary, the personnel required for the efficient management of all recreation facilities and programs. • Ensure facilities and programs meet all safety requirements and coordinate repairs with staff and contractors. • Maintain a positive working relationship with staff, Byron 226 School District employees, Byron Forest Preserve employees, and members of the community. • Ability to directly plan and oversee leagues, programs, and tournaments. • Demonstrate a high level of integrity and accountability. • Provide accurate and all pertinent information for the program guide (three times per year), social media postings, and website.
