The Master Gardener is responsible for the design, installation, planting, and maintenance of the numerous landscape beds throughout the park district, which include a 220-acre community park and several satellite parks. This position also works closely with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, executing projects in compliance with the Land and Water Reserve, and the eradication of invasive species within the 1,560 acres of natural areas.
While the focus of this position is overseeing the gardens/landscape beds district wide, you will be part of the Parks Department team which handles all aspects of parks greenspace, woodlands, and facilities construction, cleaning, and maintenance and as such will at times be called upon to perform any and all duties required to achieve department objectives. All applicants must be extremely versatile, able and willing to work on a team to complete goals, as well as flexible in scope of tasks and duties as priorities can change rapidly and unexpectedly. This position also involves recruiting and overseeing volunteer groups such as students from local colleges, church groups, or scout troops. This is a year-round hourly position with a pay range of $30,000-$35000 dependent upon qualifications and experience.
