JOB TITLE: Maintenance SUPERVISOR: Superintendent of Parks EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent, with two (2) years experience in related field of property and facility maintenance and repairs or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Minimum high school graduate. Experience in maintenance repair and construction field desired. QUALIFICATIONS: Good working knowledge of landscape and grounds, maintenance tools, equipment, shop and field practices. Must be at least 18 years old. Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Valid Illinois driver’s license required. SUMMARY: This full-time position is responsible for maintenance of parks, landscaping, turf maintenance, construction projects, maintenance and special events for agency facilities and parks. The Parks Specialist Ii is under the direction supervision of the Superintendent of Parks and Facility Services but is granted opportunities for independent supervision over full and part-time staff in related areas of responsibility. HOURS: The employee shall be considered to be on duty whenever a need exists for their services. This will require non-traditional work hours that will be consistent throughout the year. Hours are Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Attendance at work site required every day, at scheduled start time. Performs routine and preventive maintenance and repairs to district lands, facilities and equipment. Mow and trim turf areas with tractors and small mowers. Makes and maintains ice rinks and assists with snow removal. Install, maintain and repairs general landscape improvements throughout the district. Install, maintain and repairs sports fields throughout the district. Assist with seasonal operations and special projects. Assist with custodial tasks at all district facilities and grounds. Maintain effective two-way communication with immediate supervisors and assigned staff about concerns in the field. Assists in training and supervises seasonal and part-time staff as assigned. Communicate professionally with co-workers and the public. Wear personal protective equipment for job function when needed. Be prepared to work after normal hours in case of emergency or weather related tasks. Upkeep and maintenance of our parks and facilities as assigned. Assist in the maintenance and in establishing a safe and clean environment for guests. Operates hand and power tools. Maintains athletic fields and turf. Maintains Maintains and cleans maintenance equipment and vehicles. Plants trees, shrubs, flowers, and other landscape materials. Performs custodial cleaning, grass mowing, general park and building maintenance. Assists General Trades Specialist and other staff with maintenance and construction of the following: pavements, buildings, plumbing, carpentry, electrical and lighting, furnaces, ducts, pipe lines, water lines, shelters, benches, playground equipment, signs, fencing, plastering, drywall, painting, roofing and flooring. Sewers, and drainage structures, asphalt, concrete and brick paving, stone paths, etc. Attends and participates in special events. Performs the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work and safety rules. Special projects or other duties as assigned. Snow removal in winter months. . Performs tree trimming and removals. Operates tractors and other heavy machinery. Performs necessary/basic repairs on vehicles and maintenance equipment. Assists with snow removal and ice making procedures. Assists with playground construction. Demonstrates initiative, dependability, punctuality, and the ability to complete tasks assigned in a positive manner.
