JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY Under the supervision of the SRJC Coordinator, the SRJC Supervisor is responsible for the daily planning, organization and supervision of the adult day program and other assigned special recreation programs ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. • To plan, implement and evaluate the adult day program Monday-Friday, aquatic fun program, swim lessons, special events and other programs as assigned.
• Assist in hiring, training, supervising and evaluating part time staff for the adult day program. • Maintain program supplies and equipment. • Create and follow a structured daily lesson plan. Prepare monthly calendars and coordinate field trip arrangements. • Complete and submit all documentation and forms in a timely manner to the SRJC Coordinator. • Assist with developing and implementing Special Olympics tournaments at district facilities. • Coach Special Olympics teams throughout the year. • Attend in-service trainings, conferences and related workshops. • Assist with and implement SRJC fundraising events. • Promote good relationships with participants, parents, and other park district departments and outside special interest groups where appropriate. • Maintain participant confidentiality.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position supervises part time program leaders, assistants and volunteers assigned to area programs. Supervises program participants.

WORK ENVIRONMENT This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Perform work indoors and outdoors with varying weather conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds. The employee must possess good vision and reflexes to operate motorized vehicles. Lifting and transferring people in wheelchairs and pushing people in wheelchairs.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position regularly requires long hours, nights and weekend work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic recreation or a closely related field is preferred. Must have at least 2- 3 years of experience working with people with disabilities. Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written format. Strong organizational skills. Ability to maintain discretion with regard to confidential matters and/ or information. Must have the ability to plan and implement recreation programs for people with all ages and abilities. Must demonstrate enthusiasm, dependability and leadership abilities. Must have interpersonal skills to work with participants, parents, co-workers, teachers and community individuals. Must have valid IL driver’s license. Transporting of program participants in agency vehicles.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

Must hold current CPR certification.
