Job Title: Horticulture Supervisor

Salary: 24.99/DOQ

• Hands-on supervisory position with majority of hours spent working in the field

• Responsible for hiring and supervising part-time, seasonal, and temporary staff

• Performs horticulture maintenance, including planting, weeding, watering, fertilizing, and pruning

• Responsible for the design, planting, and maintenance of flower beds, shrubs, trees, and other plant material

• Employee must operate snow removal equipment on parking lots, sidewalks, and pathways. Snow removal schedules vary, but often include required early morning, late night, and weekend shifts.

• Must be experienced and skilled in horticulture, landscape maintenance and arboriculture, and perform, train, and supervise tree removal, tree pruning, stump removal, tree chipping, tree risk assessments, mulching, and other tasks as-assigned

• Must maintain a proactive approach to safety, and perform and complete safety trainings as-assigned

• Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license

• Must have prior supervisory and hands-on maintenance experience

• Must possess a valid State of Illinois Pesticide Operator’s license, and be both CPR and AED certified, or have the ability to receive certifications within six (6) months of hire. The District will pay for certifications obtained after hire.

• Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.

• Preference given to candidates with an Associate’s Degree in Horticulture, Turf Management, Forestry or a related field.

• Preference given to candidates with Certified Arborist credentials.

• Preference give to candidates with bilingual (Spanish/English) communication skills.
