Qualifications: B.S. in Horticulture or related degree or five (5) years working experience. Organizational and supervisory skills with knowledge and experience in grounds maintenance required. Knowledge and experience with plant material, soil analysis, propagation, and all phases of horticulture. The ability to obtain Illinois Pesticide Licenses in the categories of General Standards (Operator’s License), an Applicator’s License in Plant Management and Ornamentals are required. Must be able to perform manual tasks in various weather conditions including high heat and humidity. Will be required to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen. Bi-lingual Spanish is a plus. A valid Illinois State Driver’s License is also required. Must have strong computer skills as it relates to park operations such as: creating and maintaining spreadsheets and word documents, and managing time keeping, budgeting, work orders, HR, MS and other pertinent software as deemed necessary.

Duties: Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Horticultural Supervisor is responsible for the care and maintenance of assigned indoor and outdoor floral displays and ornamental landscaping and special features attached to various facility and park locations throughout the District. In addition, the Horticulture Supervisor will also assist in the design, layout, construction, and maintenance of all floral beds and gardens throughout the District. The Horticultural Supervisor will also supervise and organize full-time, and seasonal personnel and maintain vehicles and equipment that are assigned to this area. He/she will perform these duties to the best of his/her abilities and offer suggestions of better ways to accomplish jobs and be ever mindful of the best interests of the Fox Valley Park District and of fellow employees. Some evening and weekend hours will be required on a rotational basis. This is an at-will position.
