Duties: This position reports to the Director of Parks & Recreation and collaborates with the Superintendent of Recreation to help manage a $3 million department operating budget and resources. Position is responsible for all park maintenance, municipal grounds maintenance, municipal forestry, and city cemetery operations. This includes project and construction management, short and long-term planning and the ability to effectively direct and lead assigned personnel consisting of 9 full time employees that includes 2 subordinate supervisors, seasonal staff and community service workers and volunteers. Duties include but are not limited to: the development and tracking of performance standards, preparation of professional reports, implementation of staff training and safety practices, providing direction and oversight for grounds and park construction projects, budget preparation and oversight, procurement of equipment and other materials, overseeing contractual work such as tree and turf maintenance, organize and coordinate the efforts of volunteers and other community groups for parks and grounds projects, assisting with the management of intergovernmental agreements, and other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS: BS/BA Parks & Recreation, Park Management, Turf Grass Management or closely related field (Master's preferred); AND a minimum of 5 years of administrative and management experience in parks, grounds, natural resources, forestry and or sport field /facility maintenance.
Broad knowledge of the fundamentals of natural resource and grounds management, turf maintenance, athletic field maintenance, synthetic turf maintenance, arboriculture, landscape design, and pool/splash pad operations International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist (preferred) and/or National Recreation and Parks Association Certified Playground Safety Inspector (preferred); Certified Park and Recreation professional is preferred (CPRP); Ability to obtain a State of IL Pesticide Applicator within 1 year.
