Function: The Camp Coordinator is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and evaluating the Summer Camp programs .

Supervision Received: This position is responsible to the Recreation Supervisor.

Supervision Exercised: This position is responsible for the daily supervision of the Camp Supervisors, Camp Counselors, Inclusion Staff, and volunteers.


General Administration: Responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the day camp program. Supervise and evaluate appropriate staff, volunteers and inclusion staff. File Camp forms on a weekly basis. Act as a liaison between camp staff and the Recreation Supervisor. Responsible for delegating and assigning tasks including daily set-up, clean-up, and supply inventory and storage. Responsible for checking voicemail, email and other messages, then coordinating information regarding all aspects of the Camp program. (i.e. staff, office, recreation supervisor, bus drivers, parents, etc.) Responsible for knowing the location of the children in the program at all times and makes sure they are adequately supervised. Develops and maintains good relationships with parents. Maintain communication with parents concerning children’s goals, progress, behavior and accomplishments along with program information. Prepare and hold staff trainings and meetings for Camp staff. Responsible for the inventory of supplies and notifying Recreation Supervisor of what is needed. Communicate with public, staff, and participants in a professional manner. Assist with integration process of participants who require an inclusion staff by communicating with Recreation Supervisor, parents, NWSRA, and Inclusion Staff. Handle the discipline of staff.
Create and manage the Camp staff schedule. Purchase supplies, turn in receipts, and manage program supply budgets. Notifies the Recreation Supervisor in advance when absent or late to work. Promote high morale among staff and participants. Perform related duties as assigned.

Safety, Health, and Loss Control: Support, promote and make recommendations regarding all safety, health, and loss control policies as adopted by the Park District. Complete incident and accident reports and file them with the Recreation Supervisor in a timely manner. Be familiar with Part-Time Employee Manual and Camp Staff Manual. Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks. Responsible for providing all injury, illness, and health information required by the Hanover Park Park District in its effort to assign tasks within an individual’s capacity to the prevent potential injury or illness. Responsible for notification of injury or illness relating to a task assignment as described within the Part-Time Employee Manual and Camp Staff Manual.

Requirements Skill in Leadership Knowledge of child development Ability to creatively develop activities on a limited budget. Ability to handle discipline effectively and appropriately Skill in supervisory techniques Ability to communicate effectively Mature and positive attitude Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid At least 21 years of age A valid IL driver’s license that is good standing. Willingness to drive a 13-passenger shuttle bus.

Education/Experience College experience in related field of study. Three (3) years of working with children preferred. Two years supervisory experience.
