The City of Palos Heights Parks and Recreation Department seeks a full-time Facilities Technician with Parks and Recreation maintenance background. This position is responsible for the maintenance and repairs of the Palos Heights Recreation Center, Palos Community Pool, and City of Palos Heights outdoor parks and playgrounds.
Essential Job Functions: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not constructed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
•Perform general cleaning and basic maintenance functions in an around park facilities; pick up and empty trash, cleaning restrooms, power washing, and repairs to park equipment. •Arrange rooms as directed in preparation for programs, meetings or other events. •Setting-up tables and chairs which includes regularly lifting tables unassisted, which weigh over 20lb. •Monitor and request work orders. •Remove snow on walkways in front of building entrances. •Perform general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, vehicles and tools in operable condition. •Utilize precautionary safety equipment; monitor playgrounds, recreation facilities, equipment and work environment to ensure safety of employees and visitors; report safety issues and faulty equipment to supervisor. •Provide general support for special events. •Implement preventative maintenance procedures; coordinate maintenance activities. •Coordinate daily work activities; work assignments; troubleshoot problem situations. •Perform various manual work tasks associated with the repair and maintenance of playgrounds, recreation facilities and equipment, such as; carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and HVAC. •Monitor inventory of equipment and supplies in assigned area; initiate request for new or replacement materials; research equipment for potential purchase. •Knows and assists in the enforcement pf Parks and Recreation Department rules and regulations with program participants and facility users. •Responds to complaints and questions related to maintenance operations.

•Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. •Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, coworkers and members of the public. •Knowledge of cleaning and routine maintenance procedures, equipment and supplies. •Ability to utilize various equipment and tools associated with cleaning and maintenance operations, which may include a utility truck, vacuum cleaner, mop, broom, ladder(s), scaffolding, shovel, snow blower and hand tools. •Ability to exert heavy, physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and carrying ladders unassisted and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials 20-50 pounds, and as much as 75-100 on occasion. •Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollens, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards, toxic agents, disease or pathogenic substances. •Proficient in use of appropriate safety equipment in the performance of job functions.
Qualification Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
•High school diploma or GED preferred •Minimum of two (2) years related experience involving maintenance and/or facility work. •Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position. •Driving is an essential function of this position and individual must possess and maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s license and be insurable. •Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screen. •American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Certification or acquire within 3 months of employment. •CPO/CPSI/Certified Pesticide Applicator preferred and maybe required within 1 year of employment
