LEYDEN TOWNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION: RECREATION SUPERVISOR DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Full-time Exempt
SALARY AND BENEFITS: $30,000-35,000 Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO Health Insurance. No out of pocket premium for individuals with no copay or coinsurance. Currently, $2,500 HRA deductible is paid by employer annually. Competitive family plans. Vision and Dental coverage also included by employer.
POSITION FOCUS: • Responsible for, but not limited to the administration of the daily operation and programming of the recreation programs including preschool, summer camps, enrichment programs, early childhood camps and general recreation programming.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP: • Reports to Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation Department • Supervises preschool, camp instructors and general recreation instructors.
• Rotates Monday- Sunday schedule including day time, evening & weekend manager on duty responsibility.
• Varies by day and includes office hours determined by program need.
• Designated by Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation.
• Attends Special Events as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: • Organizes and directs recreation programs and early childhood enrichment programs including summer camps. • Develops programs, including but not limited to: hiring, training, evaluation and disciplining staff, reviewing course curriculum. • Submits marketing requests. • Schedules and leads summer camp programs. • Evaluates the effectiveness of existing programs and submits annual recommendations for fee and program changes. • Prepares annual budget projections and monitors revenue and expenses for applicable program areas. • Requisitions purchases and distributes equipment and supplies. • Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates part-time and seasonal direct reports. • Prepares the preparation of annual reports, monthly reports and periodic and special reports. • Establishes good working relationships with patrons, the community and general public. • Conducts staff meetings with direct reports. • Attends work on a regular basis. • Inputs seasonal brochure information into shared drive prior to deadline of each guide. • Performs the job safely and in compliance with District policies, procedures, work and safety rules, and the employee handbook. • Maintains a clean and organized work environment. • Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential.
SECONDARY JOB DUTIES: • Provides orientation and training to staff. • Maintains required departmental records of programs and class participation statistics. • Prepares and updates required staff and/or program manual, as needed. • Acts as liaison with community groups and makes presentations as requested. • Attends professional conferences and workshops to promote knowledge in related areas of responsibility and for continuing education. • Represents the Parks and Recreation Department at various preschool fairs and expos. • Teaches classes as needed.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: • Thorough knowledge of early childhood, camps and Recreation activities. • Good knowledge of program development. • Strong knowledge of principles, practices and objectives of Park and Recreation Department. • Good knowledge of the principles of financial management. • Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: • BA/BS in Parks and Recreation, Early Childhood Education or closely related field from and accredited college or university. • Minimum of 2 or more years of demonstrated success as a programmer. • CPRP Certification preferred or ability to receive within twelve months of employment. • Or, any equivalent combination of education, experience and training. • Valid Illinois Class “D” Driver's License. • CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications within six months of employment, instructor level preferred.
