Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Management, Parks and Recreation Administration or related field. Five or more years management experience. Previous department head experience preferred.
Duties: Direct the administrative operations of the recreation department including but not limited to; budget preparation and review, contract negotiations, policy and procedure recommendations and development, staff training, mentoring, evaluations, strategic planning regarding marketing and fiscal management. The recreation director will lead a five person full time staff and will be ultimately responsible for all recreation programs and services including special events, athletics, preschool, before & after school care, fitness, aquatics and general recreation programs.
Major components of the recreation department are a 107,000 square foot recreation center which includes a fitness center, 288 seat theater, double gymnasium, dance studio, preschool, and multipurpose rooms, a large scale outdoor family aquatic center, and a 38 acre sports complex.
The ability to develop and maintain community relations with patrons of all ages, and cooperation with community leaders is essential. Must have excellent communication skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office and other industry related software. A collaborative team management approach is required. The recreation department works in conjunction with the parks, facilities, and finance departments.
