Parks Laborer $15-17 per hour DOQ plus benefits Under the direct supervision of the designated crew leader and the general direction of the Superintendent of Parks, this postion is responsible for performing a variety of manentance and/or repair work to park properties and equipment.

Qualifications: Employee must be at least 18 years old. High school graduate, or equivalent is required. Three years parks experience and advanced training is preferred. Employee must have a valid Illinois driver's license and be able to provide own transportation to and from work. Employee must be able to obtain an Illinois Pesticide Operator's license within six months of hire. Upon conditional job offer, candidtate will be subject to a thorough pre-employement physical examination and criminal background check.

Essential Functions: Receives instructions from the Superintendent of Parks, or designated crew leader regarding daily work assignments.

Works in all areas of the Parks Department including buildings, landscaping, turf, playgrounds and athletic field maintencance.

Ensures that accidents and injuries are tended to and reported immediately.

Operates all district equipment including: trucks, power mowers, tractors, edgers, trimmers, power tools, snow blowers, etc.

Provides landscaping care to flower/shrub beds in parks and facilities.

Maintains safe path systems via blowing, sweeping, and picking debris and litter.

Removes all refuse and debris from all park areas and facilities on a daily/weekly/or biweekly basis(as needed).

Safely and appropriately apply pest and weed controls as needed to properties.

Provide safe, prompt, and efficient snow/ice removal services in winter.

Maintain all park equipment to highest standards.

Gain knowledge of Park District policies and procedures and adhere to them at all times. Perform all duties within district rules and regulations, in the safest possible manner, and report to supervisor all hazardous conditions.

Employee will be expected to work or be on call during non-traditional hours as necessary.

Cognitive Functions: Employee must be skilled in the use of computers for record keeping, reporting and communications as needed.

Employee must possess time management and organizational skills to perform effectively all responsibilities.

Employee must possess excellent problem solving skills and have the capacity to act in a rational, thoughtful manner in all high stress or emergency situations.

Employee is expected to represent the Niles Park District in the most professional manner at all times.
