A Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or related field or three years related experience or equivalent combination of both. A minimum of two years’ experience designing and installing plant beds. General knowledge of plant identification and proper care as well as proper use of tools required. Ability to obtain (within six months) and maintain a Pesticide Operator’s License.. A valid Illinois State Driver’s License is also required.

Duties: Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Parks, the Horticulturist is responsible for planting, cultivating and maintaining landscape plants such as perennials, annuals, indigenous plants, and shrubs in environmentally controlled structures and throughout Park District facilities and parks by performing various duties. Other duties to include general park maintenance, special events, snow removal and ice control as well as ice making in the winter.
