 $19 - $24/hour depending on qualifications and experience

Qualifications: Education: High School diploma or equivalent (GED). Prefer Associates degree in agronomy, horticulture, landscaping, turf management or related field.

Experience: Prefer at least two years landscape experience of parks and grounds. Prior supervisory experience of grounds crew staff preferred but not required.

Certifications: Must possess a valid Illinois Drivers’ License and be able to obtain within six months of employment a Class “B” C.D.L. (Commercial Drivers’ License). Must possess or be able to obtain within six (6) months of employment an Illinois Pesticide Operator or Applicator License. Must be able to obtain and keep current CPR and AED certification.

Other Qualifications: Must possess strong interpersonal, leadership, organizational and communication skills and be able to communicate using the English language. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and pass a pre-employment physical, drug test, Illinois Driver's License record check and criminal background check.

Duties: This position is responsible for skilled and semi-skilled duties in the grounds maintenance of all parks, playgrounds, facility grounds and athletic areas with an emphasis on landscape and horticulture job duties. At times acts as a crew leader of assigned seasonal staff. Maintains records and inspection reports. Safely operates small to heavy equipment including string trimmers, push and riding mowers, chain saws, tractors and trucks. Duties include planting, trimming and removal of trees and shrubs; assisting with the design of flower beds; planting flowers and maintaining flower beds including watering and weeding; performs cement and masonry work and assists in landscape construction projects as assigned. Works on a rotational snow removal crew performing shoveling, snow plowing, salting of walkways and parking lots and other snow removal duties as assigned. This position works outdoors, year-round and is exposed to extreme climate temperatures and conditions including severe cold, ice, snow, rain, heat and humidity.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Depending on the needs of the District, may be required to work other days and times.
