Position Summary: The supervisor is responsible for the development, budgeting, organization and promotion of a variety of recreation programs in the areas of Summer Camp, Before and After School Extended Day Care, Days Off School programs, Holiday Camps, Youth Enrichment, Cultural Arts and Special Interest programs.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Administration or related field preferred. Minimum of two (2) years experience in the Recreation field preferred. Certified Park and Recreation Professional preferred. Practical knowledge of recreation programming. Ability to work well with external and internal customers. Excellent (Oral and written) communication and organization skills. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Proficient knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office applications. Strong organization, problem solving and interpersonal skills with attention to detail. Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 3 months of employment.
Duties and Responsibilities: Coordinates area programs and facility schedules. Creates new and inventive recreational programs on a regular basis. Participates with all program area projects. Oversees area personnel including recruiting, hiring, training, disciplining and evaluating. Monitors area staff off-days, submits for payroll & approves requests. Attends and participates in the Recreational Department meetings and holds meetings with part time staff to further communication. Attends the annual park district / school district room use meeting. Handles public information and advertising for assigned programs and facilities. Assists Manager of Marketing and Communications in the development of brochures, newsletters, electronic posts and notifications. Purchases and controls all necessary supplies and equipment for assigned programs and facilities. Monitors monthly financial reports, spending and revenues and takes action when necessary with assistance from the Recreation Manager. Assists Recreation Manager in all aspects of the program area budget. Tracks monthly/annual revenues and expenses for all area programs & facilities and develops reports as requested. Actively supports and enforces the safety program instituted by the Park District. Fosters a working environment that promotes safe work habits. Maintains a thorough understanding of the park district’s policies and operations and enforces and interprets those in a positive manner. Perform other duties as assigned by the Recreation Manager or Superintendent of Recreation.
