Are you an energetic, experienced golf course maintenance professional with a passion for service? The Glencoe Golf Club is seeking an Assistant Superintendent. The Glencoe Golf Club, owned and operated by the Village of Glencoe, is an 18-hole public golf course established in 1921 with a history of providing superior play and course quality and is one of the finest public golf facilities on the North Shore. Golfers play an average of 32,000 per year at the Glencoe Golf Club, including seasonal memberships, leagues, individual rounds and outings. The Glencoe Golf Club hosts Loyola Academy and North Shore Country Day golf teams and New Trier’s Intramural league. In addition to providing excellent golf facilities, the Glencoe Golf Club is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary and reflects the Village of Glencoe’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Along the same lines, the Glencoe Golf Club is also a member of the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary Program and uses maintenance practices that are designed to promote environmental sustainability. Required Qualifications Education and Experience • Two-year degree in Turfgrass Management or related field • Three years of experience in turfgrass management and daily golf course operations, in a supervisory role • Ability to obtain and maintain Illinois pesticide applicator license • Spanish speaker preferred but not required • Capital experience with irrigation and drainage projects; landscape and hardscape project experience a plus • Ability to train/supervise/schedule a crew of up to 15 in a safe and efficient manner • Mechanical ability • A desire to advance within the turfgrass industry • Valid driver’s license

Job Responsibilities • Assist in personnel management, including evaluation and discipline of employees • Calibrate and perform applications of pesticides, fertilizers and seed, including the proper documentation of all applications and the safe handling and storage of all pesticides and fertilizers • Supervise and participate in the set up and monitoring of irrigation system, pump station and all related duties • Scout course conditions using IPM techniques • Provide input on projects; budgets; staff development, employee evaluations, discipline and termination issues, wage increases and hiring of employees • Assist mechanic as needed • Performs other duties as assigned • Promote safe working practices and ensure employees follow established safety regulations, policies and procedures; take corrective action when necessary to ensure compliance with safety regulations, policies and procedures

Interpersonal and Communication • Excellent customer service skills • Ability to train, supervise and schedule a crew of up to 15 employees in a safe and efficient manner • Maintain strong working relationship with Public Works staff

Functional Knowledge • Capital experience with irrigation and drainage projects; landscape and hardscape project experience a plus • Mechanical ability to assist with equipment in the off-season • Cool season turf grass experience with poa annua and bent grass varieties • Ability to manage the course and grounds in the absence of the Superintendent • Strong attention to detail, passion for excellence, professional demeanor and a great attitude

Physical Requirements and Work Environment • Constant lifting and/or moving up to 65 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds • Frequent walking and standing (sometimes on uneven surfaces), talking, listening, and operating computer (with or without reasonable accommodation) • Walking, grasping, lifting and carrying objects; reaching, operating hand controls and small tools, operating foot controls (such as driving a light-duty vehicle) • Work time is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and in a variety of environmental conditions, including (but not limited to) heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain, snow, dust and conditions normally associated with working outdoors and using hand tools and power equipment • The position is required to work extended shifts to meet the Golf Club’s operational/business demands; shifts include required daytime hours, evening hours, weekends and holidays • Strong emphasis on workplace safety Salary Salary range is $45,000 to $54,000 per year, depending on qualifications. This position is designated as full time year-round.
