WHO WE ARE: The Elmhurst Park District, established in 1920 and located 16 miles west of Chicago, provides parks, recreation facilities and programs to meet our mission of enriching lives while having fun! We have an exciting FULL-TIME job opportunity as Program Supervisor - Racquet Sports at Courts Plus - a community facility! We are looking for the right candidate to lead one of the top racquet sports programs in the Chicagoland area. Strong organizational and program planning skills combined with an excellent customer service philosophy are required. Someone with experience in ACTIVE Registration system preferred. 
 
WHAT YOU’LL DO: As Program Supervisor, you will supervise the operation of racquet sports area! Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
  • Recruit, hire, train and evaluate staff
  • Monitor financial comparison report to make recommendations & changes
  • Develop pricing and fee structures for private groups, leagues, tournaments, classes, and courts
  • Monitor court sheets for accuracy, payment, and court management
  • Conduct price and product comparisons for the highest quality and best price
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors for supplies and equipment
  • Act as a liaison between customer, registration, and administration
  • Asses club environment to maintain a safe atmosphere
  • Create, prepare, edit and proof programs for brochure
  • Plan, promote and implement programs on a seasonal basis
  • Manage special program registration and events
  • Develop, implement, schedule, evaluate and supervise programs and events to meet needs of members
  • Instruct tennis lessons when pros are unavailable
  • Administer all in-house, travel teams, and USTA leagues
  • Complete necessary paperwork to add new classes, transfer participants and issue refunds
  • Develop and update program curricula for all tennis and pickleball lessons

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
  • Bachelor's degree in health related field, or equivalent work experience with 4 years experience and 2 year supervisory experience
  • Teaching experience/USTA certification preferred
  • Valid IL Drivers License 
  • Ability to operate ball machine
  • Proficiency in computer word-processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Proven problem-solving, communication, organizational, customer service and management skills

WHEN YOU’LL WORK:
This is a full-time position, expectation to work 40-hours/week. Schedule varies and includes weekday evening and weekends.

POSITION SUMMARY
 
The Aquatics Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the outdoor pool facility and beach operations and training at both facilities.
 
This is a seasonal position.  The hours will be determined by the Fitness and Aquatics Manager and can change based on need. Most weeks will work up to 35 hours. 
 
The Supervisor shall be considered on duty whenever a need exists for their services. This position may require varying shift schedules including weekdays, weekends, day, and evening hours, as the aquatics areas are open each day during the week.  The Supervisor should have flexibility with scheduling as may be needed. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
 
Primary
  • Supervises and schedules the Aquatics Team at both the district pool facility and designated beach areas for the Park District.     
  • Shall possess the ability to schedule, organize, direct, assist, and lead the Aquatics Team in the implementation of their assigned duties. 
  • Will assist in completion of the season end evaluations on all aquatics team members. 
  • Assists the Guest Services Manager in coordinating all groups and rental bookings and ensures appropriate staffing for all events. 
  • Orders and distributes program supplies as needed.  
  • Maintains appropriate inventory and supply for all programs in area.
 
Secondary
  • May assist with budget projections and monitor revenue and expenses in areas of responsibility.
  • May approve bi-weekly timecards, program evaluations, and any special reports requested by the Fitness and Aquatics Manager.  
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of existing programs and submits recommendations for program development, changes, and pricing structure to the Fitness and Aquatics Manager. 
  • Maintains records of programs, fees, class participation and membership statistics as required.
  • Performs the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work, and safety rules.
  • Ensures goals are being met within area of responsibility as well as being a productive team member to achieve division and department goals.
  • Ensures the safety of all aquatics programing by maintaining proper certifications for all staff including Lifeguard Training, CPR, First Aid and AED training. 
  • Conducts regular in-service trainings and workshops for lifeguards to ensure the safety of guests and full compliance with American Red Cross requirements. Other duties as assigned.
 
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
 
Preferred minimum 3-5 years related experience for an aquatics program or operational management/team leadership with emphasis on providing excellent guest services, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be accepted. Previous experience in staff supervision preferred.  
 
Preferred certifications (or the ability to acquire) include: 
 
  • National Pool and Waterpark Lifeguard Instructor and/or American Red Cross Certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, creativity and skill in aquatics programming and facility management as assigned. 
  • Working knowledge of principles, practices, and objectives of aquatics and community recreation.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills; ability to work with minimal supervision, to solve problems and produce work on a timely basis.
  • Demonstrated initiative, dependability, professionalism, resourcefulness, and management skills with the ability to work in a positive manner with the general public, Park District staff and Board of Commissioners.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak in English.
  • Must have valid Illinois driver's license.

The Park Ridge Park District is seeking a team member who will be responsible for planning, implementing, maintaining and evaluating a broad spectrum of general recreation programs including dance, music, theater along with general recreation programs, events and trips for teens along with summer camps to meet community needs.  Selected individual will recruit, train, supervise, evaluate and coach part-time staff and volunteers according to the policies and procedures of the Park Ridge Park District. This position also coordinates the district-wide apparel bid and the American Camp Association Accreditation.

 
Qualifications: Requires two to three years of full-time experience in recreation programming for dance, music and teens. Excellent communication skills, and the ability to work within a fast-paced team environment with individuals of varying ages. An intermediate level of written and verbal communication in the English language is required as well as Microsoft Office Software. Knowledge of RecTrac Registration System, Paycom payroll system and MSI finance software a plus. Must be CPR/AED and First-Aid instructor certified or have the ability to become certified (through the Park District) within 12 months of hire date. A valid Illinois Driver’s License is required in order to drive a District vehicle.

 
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Sports and Tourism or related field. Certified Park and Recreation Professional preferred.

 
Availability:  
  • Typical work-week is Monday through Friday with an approximate schedule of 8:30am – 4:30pm.
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday hours are frequent and to be expected based on the needs of the programs and events. 
  • A minimum of three to four District wide events each year
  • Selected individual is expected to be on duty whenever the need exists.

Position:
 
Full-Time Parks Maintenance Level 1 – Peck Farm Caretaker 
 
Summary:
Under the direction of the Peck Farm Manager and the Assistant Superintendent of Parks, the Peck Farm Caretaker shall perform maintenance tasks which focus on the timely care of Peck Farm Park. This includes care of the farm buildings, butterfly house, nature playground, flower beds and park grounds. This position works a scheduled five-day work week, which may include a regularly scheduled weekend day during the peak season of active park use, that being mid-April thru Mid-October. During this time, one of the scheduled work days will be either a Saturday or Sunday. The work week for the remainder of the year is typically Monday thru Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Duties after the April to October season may include working with Parks staff members in general park maintenance duties outside of Peck Farm. Overtime may be required.
 
Supervisor:
The Peck Farm Caretaker reports to Peck Farm Park Manager and Assistant Superintendent of Parks, and the Executive Director. 
 
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include completion of a high school education and basic knowledge of landscape maintenance skills.  Additional knowledge of turf, trees, shrubs, flowers, building maintenance, and equipment operation is preferred. A valid Illinois Drivers License is required. An Illinois Department of Agriculture license to apply plant protectants is preferred. 
 
Essential Functions:
1.      Season long care and daily maintenance of parks, buildings and athletic facilities. 
2.      Perform mowing, custodial maintenance, general maintenance, landscaping and repairs for continual upkeep and cleanliness of buildings, grounds, and facilities. 
3.      Set up of facilities for rental events, District programs and/or classes.
4.      Supervision of part-time or seasonal employees may be required.  
5.      Ability to safely operate Park District vehicles and equipment.  
6.      Remain on call for snow removal, repairs and maintenance as deemed necessary.
7.      All other duties as assigned. 
 
Marginal Functions:
1.      Assist all employees of the Park District as needed.
2.      Attend training opportunities and attain certifications relevant to position.
 
Cognitive and physical requirements:
1.      Resolve differences and problems that arise with patrons and work together with other employees.
2.      The Parks Department employees must exhibit good problem-solving ability and good judgment in keeping with the mission of the Park District.
3.      Will be exposed to weather elements when performing outdoor functions. Some activities are performed indoors.
  1. Handling Park District materials up to 50 pounds.  Assistance will be provided when necessary.
 
Safety Program:
1.      Understand the Park District’s safety procedures and requirements.
2.      Adherence to all safety protocols including accident reports, emergency safety procedures,
3.      Timely reporting of hazardous conditions or conduct of any employee under their supervision. 
4.     Report all incidents and potential hazards to the Safety Committee as soon as possible.
