The Opportunity: We have an opening for the Manager on Duty role at the Recreation Center/4500 Fitness Center! The Manager on Duty is responsible for the management of the building operations in the absence of the Assistant Superintendent of Recreation during their regular shift. The Manager on Duty provides excellent customer service to guests by greeting visitors and answering inquiries, processes all fitness related transactions, and supports and coordinates the programs of the Recreation Center. 

What you get: This full time position pays $20.00/hour ($41,600 annually), as well as health, dental and vision insurance, paid time off, IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund), and a free fitness membership to 4500 Fitness. 

When you’ll work: Full-Time; 40 hours per week
  • Sundays 10:15am – 6:15pm
  • Mondays - Thursdays 1:15pm – 9:15pm

A Day in the Life: 
  • Close the Recreation Center building during each scheduled shift
  • Follow building schedule to set up and take down equipment for programs and rentals
  • Ensure all programs and activities in the facility are operating in an efficient, safe and professional manner
  • Sell and accurately complete fitness transactions such as daily passes, punch passes, personal training sessions and fitness memberships
  • Conduct daily building inspections for cleanliness to ensure the Recreation Center is meeting District expectations including stacking weights, thorough and regular cleaning of equipment and fitness area, and tidying up the exercise area
  • Perform custodial and maintenance duties, as needed, to assist the Recreation Center custodian or in the absence of the custodian, including restocking restrooms, removing garbage, cleaning spills, cleaning windows, minor snow removal, and reporting maintenance repair needs
  • Enforce all facility rules in a professional and polite manner
  • Answer guest questions in a friendly manner and ensure that members and guests scan at the front desk prior to using the facility
  • Respond to guest concerns and resolve differences that arise between patrons and/or District employees
  • Actively respond and lead staff and patrons during emergencies such as: fire, weather, conflict, or injuries
 
About you: 
  • High School Diploma, preferred
  • Previous experience working in a Park District, Recreation or Athletics facility, preferred
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to perform physical activities which requires moderate to frequent lifting, standing, balancing, walking, bending, stooping, and handling materials
  • Able to work with computers and systems to set up functions, enter data, and process information
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification is required (Park District will train)

Job Description: Recreation Coordinator 
Department:
Parks and Recreation
Reports to: Director of Parks and Recreation

Basic Function:
Under the direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation, the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative management of the recreational programming for the Village of Willowbrook. The Recreation Supervisor is expected to effectively communicate with customers, vendors, and staff about program and event details.

Summary:
The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the organization and development of a comprehensive recreational and leisure community programming portfolio. To include the development and management of all contractual, in-house, and cooperative recreational programming. The individual will exercise independent judgement and discretion, not of a routine or clerical nature, in evaluating and reporting on the work efforts of employees and overseeing the recruitment and selection process for the department. Have a strong understanding of recreational programming, budgeting, and program management. Have the ability to evaluate current programs and research new concepts and programs on a seasonal basis.

Assists the Director of Parks and Recreation in leading all Recreation activities and special events of the Village. Will be required to work nights and weekends to meet the general public’s recreational and special event needs.

Responsible for assisting the Recreation Department in employing a variety of creative, innovative, and motivational methods to create a market and customer-oriented approach to developing, promoting, and evaluating services.

Responsibilities:

  • Management and supervision of all recreational programming
  • Management and supervision of all contractual classes
  • Development and execution of Village Special events
  • Assist with program registration and customer service
  • Development of seasonal program guide
  • Development of marketing materials and social media content for programs

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Parks & Recreation, Business Administration, Sports Management, or related field required. Will consider significant and material experience in lieu of formal education. At least 2 years of full-time work experience desirable. Supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of a variety of sports and recreation programming, event planning, marketing, and/or recreational activities. Critical thinking, analytic ability, excellent communication and organizational skills, strong technical ability (MS Outlook and MS Office) and familiarity with registration software Active Network all required.

Additional Considerations:
Must possess good judgment and be customer service oriented. Have the ability to multi-task. Take initiative in identifying problems and developing solutions. Effectively communicate with coworkers, patrons, and supervisors about responsibilities and duties.

Benefits and Salary:
$50,000 to $65,000 (depending on qualifications). The Village provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and life insurance, Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension, ICMA-RC retirement plans, paid sick, vacation, holiday time, and more.

Hours
: 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Plus, additional hours on nights and weekends according to program needs and scheduling.

JOB SUMMARY:  The Recreation Supervisor reports directly to the Director of Recreation.  The Recreation Supervisor is responsible for the development, management, and promotion of Phil’s Beach and swim lessons, Athletic Leagues and Classes and the Fitness Center.

 GENERAL PURPOSE:         
The BASE (Before & After School Experience) & Camp Supervisor is responsible, in conjunction with the BASE & Camp Manager, for the administration for assigned facilities and all BASE and camp programs including assigned services and projects. The employee follows the overall goals and objectives, activities, services, policies, and procedures as prescribed by the BASE and Camp Manager.  The employee will be held accountable for providing customers a functional, attractive, safe, and accessible BASE and camp experience within limitations in the resources made available. The employee is also evaluated in terms of program management 
and quality of customer service.
 
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS: 
A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Early Childhood-oriented, recreation or closely related field preferred.  Must have good oral and written communication skills.  Certified in CPR and First Aid is required within first 90 days of hire. Should have a valid Illinois Driver’s License.  Must be proficient at basic computer word processing software. Experience operating before and after school programs, camps or an equivalent combination of education and experience is strongly preferred.

 
 PROGRAM OPERATIONS: 
·  Within established district goals, objectives, policies and procedures, plans and administers assigned BASE programs,        special events, camps and services.
·  Monitors the performance of BASE and camp program operations and assigned facilities.
·  Monitors activity of participants and staff to ensure adherence to all safety rules and regulations. Park District and School facilities.
·  Responsible for motivating staff to improve their work performance.
·  Responsible for aesthetic appearance of all facilities in which BASE and camp programs are being programed and make sure equipment and supplies are in good working order.
·  Constantly reviews and monitors facilities and make recommendations as to needed improvements.
·  Evaluates the effectiveness of all services used and makes recommendations to the BASE and Camp Manager as well as the Director of Recreation.
·  Prepares yearly, monthly, quarterly and periodic special reports, as required by the BASE and Camp Manager and the Director of Recreation.
·  Provides feedback from staff and participants to BASE and Camp Manager.
·  Seeks, interprets, and implements input from the public, schools and staff
·  Maintains required records. Staff training hours, student attendance, etc.
·  Makes day to day recommendations for facility improvements.
·  Responsible for helping in promoting and executing fundraising events
·  Assists in the execution of Park District special events.

·  Drives 15 passenger bus for programing as required.
 
PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT:
·  Recruits, interviews, selects, and supervises part-time personnel, within the BASE and Day Camp programs, in consultation with the BASE and Camp Manager and Director of Recreation.  Communicates with all personnel and renders decisions associated with employment and related activities within the department.
·  Nurtures culture of the program in a manner that promotes open and frequent communication among employees. Fosters teamwork to address and accomplish the desired goals of the program and agency.
·  Evaluates employees’ performance by completing regular evaluations.  Responsible for overall supervision of employees and hold employees accountable for meeting deadlines.
·  Provides all subordinates with specific guidelines and task instructions as necessary to ensure program effectiveness.
·  Monitors all aspects of the BASE and Day Camp programs to ensure compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and all other district human resource policies, procedures, and regulations.  Any unusual or unprecedented human resource or personnel occurrence or situation shall be quickly brought to the attention of the BASE and Camp Manager, ensuring that all proper documentation is followed as prescribed by the district’s policies.
 
FISCAL MANAGEMENT:
·  Assists in the budget planning, development of long-term planning/goals and program ideas and improvements.
·  Communicates routinely with the BASE and Camp Manager in monthly bills, purchases and receipts
·  Develops additional programs/events within the Recreation Department.
·  Maintains a fiscal mind set when planning programs 
 
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
·  Maintains close contact with the population and guests served.
·  Continually evaluates the effectiveness of the BASE and Day Camp programs, policies, and procedures from the   standpoint of customer and participant response.  In light of these findings, makes recommendations to the Director of Recreation as appropriate to improve the program’s effectiveness and efficiency.
·  Ensures a high-quality customer service experience 
· Responsible for maintaining positive working relationships with BASE and Camp Manager, Director of Recreation, customers, co-workers, school district staff, Park District staff and Executive Director.
 
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
·  Serves on committees and focus groups as assigned by the Director of Recreation and the Executive Director.
·  When approved by the Director of Recreation and Executive Director, attends professional conferences and workshops to further develop knowledge in related areas of responsibility.

We are looking for an innovative and passionate recreation manager to oversee summer camp, Ready Teddy Preschool, Footlight Players Community Theater, and general interest programming

About Us: The Community Park District of La Grange Park serves 13,000 La Grange Park residents as well as hundreds of neighboring participants from Brookfield, Lagrange, Westchester, and Western Springs. We are proud members of SEASPAR, IPRA, NPRA, IAPD, the La Grange Park Chamber of Commerce. In the last four years, our agency introduced the first traditional summer day camp in our community and the program currently serves more than 150 families per week. Increased support for recreational programming in our community has helped us improve our net position by more than 300% since 2019 and we are looking for the right individual to help us keep that momentum going!

The ideal candidate will develop exciting new programming and refine and improve what the Community Park District currently offers. 

The Recreation Manager is an exempt full-time position that creates, manages, and evaluates essential and inclusive recreational opportunities in La Grange Park. The Recreation Manager is directly responsible for Ready Teddy Preschool, early childhood programming, summer camps, day camps, as well as a wide range of youth and adult general interest programming. The position can at times exceed 40 hours of work per week to supervise or attend evening or weekend events.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in parks and recreation management, early childhood education, or 3 years of equivalent experience is required. Must be a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or have the ability to acquire within three years of hire.  Candidate must have First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire. Candidate must possess a valid State of Illinois class “D” driver’s license.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR
The Recreation Manager reports to the Superintendent of Recreation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Administrative duties include but not limited to recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, supervising, evaluating and, if necessary, disciplining personnel, and making recommendations regarding pay increases for such personnel, including, but not limited to Ready Teddy, flex and summer camp staff, contractual staff, recreation coordinators, and program coordinators; submitting accurate bi-weekly payroll; submitting and managing an annual budget; submitting a monthly status report; preparing bids for and ordering program equipment and supplies in accordance with the District purchasing policy; maintaining and protecting supplies and other inventory; promoting District activities to community groups; and attending Park Board meetings as needed.
  • Oversees in the development and administration of the Community Footlight Players youth theater program, and dance programming.
  • Organizes and runs special events and trips specific to camp and preschool.
  • Works with local school districts to develop and implement an efficient preschool program. 
  • Develops and maintains an excellent working relationship with school districts, the La Grange Park Library, and other public and private organizations that provide program resources. 
  • Coordinates larger events with the Marketing and Events Manager and outside groups. 
  • Specific to the Ready Teddy Preschool: responsible for tuition preparation and distribution; scheduling teachers; handling day to day operations; planning, organizing, conducting and evaluating all Ready Teddy special events; responsible for fund raising events; responsible for curriculum development, registrations, teacher meetings, and evaluation exercises; responsible for all aspects of the flex program.
  • Specific to the summer camp program: responsible for curriculum development, registrations, and program evaluation; handling day to day operations; training, scheduling, and supervising all staff and volunteers.
  • Coordinates inclusion services.
  • Promotes a quality loss control/safety program for the Park District.
  • Contributes to park district special events.
  • Teaches classes as needed.
  • Performs the job in a safe manner and in compliance with the District policies, procedures, work and safety rules and the employee handbook.
