The Hoffman Estates Park District is excited to announce a professional opportunity within our Recreation Department, Aquatic Manager.  The Aquatic Manager is responsible for the planning and operation of Seascape Family Aquatic Center & the Club indoor lap and activity pools, as well as the planning, implementation, and evaluation of swim lessons, programming and special events at Seascape and The Club. We are seeking an energetic and dedicated professional to join our team of 75 full-time staff.  This individual will report directly to the Superintendent of Recreation Programs. In the summer this position will be housed primarily at our Seascape Aquatic Center location. In the off-season, they will be at the Club at Prairie Stone at our indoor pool facility. The Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing a District-wide volunteer program. This includes recruiting, training, and retaining volunteers who assist in nearly every aspect of the District’s mission. Works across multiple District departments to support and grow individual volunteer groups.  Develops and implements policies and procedures, including position descriptions, training, safety and educational materials.  Coordinates annual volunteer recognition event.   Coordinates corporate and group workdays and volunteer monitoring programs.  Performs lifting tasks up to 25 pounds.   Drives a motorized vehicle to travel to different locations.  Performs tasks that will require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting. 
 
EXPERIENCE
Five years of experience with program coordination or volunteer management. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish).  Strong organizational and time management skills.  Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with a variety of constituencies both internally and externally.   Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including speaking in front of groups.  Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.  Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Position: Parks Maintenance Level 1 

Summary: Under the direction of the Superintendent of Parks & Properties & the Assistant Superintendent, the Parks Maintenance Level 1 shall perform maintenance tasks which focus on the timely care and maintenance of District landscapes, athletic fields and buildings. This position works a scheduled five-day work week, which may include a regularly scheduled weekend day during the peak season of active park use, that being mid-April thru Mid-October. During this time, one of the scheduled work days will be either a Saturday or Sunday. The work week for the remainder of the year is typically Monday thru Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Overtime may be required. 

Supervisor: All Parks Department Maintenance Employees report to the Assistant Superintendent of Parks, Superintendent of Parks and Properties and the Executive Director. 

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include completion of a high school education and basic knowledge of landscape maintenance skills. Additional knowledge of turf, trees, shrubs, flowers, building maintenance, and equipment operation is preferred. A valid Illinois Drivers License is required. An Illinois Department of Agriculture license to apply plant protectants is preferred. 

Essential Functions: 1. Season long care and daily maintenance of parks, buildings and athletic facilities. 2. Perform mowing, custodial maintenance, general maintenance, landscaping and repairs for continual upkeep and cleanliness of buildings, grounds, and facilities. 3. Plant & maintain trees. 4. Supervision of part-time or seasonal employees may be required. 5. Ability to safely operate Park District vehicles and equipment. 6. Remain on call for snow removal, repairs and maintenance as deemed necessary. 7. All other duties as assigned. 

Marginal Functions: 1. Assist all employees of the Park District as needed. 2. Attend training opportunities and attain certifications relevant to position. 

Cognitive and physical requirements: 1. Resolve differences and problems that arise with patrons and work together with other employees. 2. The Parks Department employees must exhibit good problem-solving ability and good judgment in keeping with the mission of the Park District. 3. Will be exposed to weather elements when performing outdoor functions. Some activities are performed indoors. 4. Handling Park District materials up to 50 pounds. Assistance will be provided when necessary. 

Safety Program: 1. Understand the Park District’s safety procedures and requirements. 2. Adherence to all safety protocols including accident reports, emergency safety procedures, 3.   4. Builds, installs, paints and maintains park facilities including play structures, benches, shelters, retaining walls, borders, pathways,. 
  5. Installs and maintains trees, shrubs, perennials, turf grass and flower beds. Trims and prunes trees and shrubbery.  
  6. Performs a bi-monthly inspection of all assigned sites.
  7. Visually inspects work sites and surrounding areas and removes all safety hazards, garbage, and refuse materials on an ongoing basis regardless of assigned task.
  8. Assists with the preparation and maintenance of various athletic fields. 
  9. Performs daily inspection of mowers, tractors and trucks before use.  May perform small engine repairs such as chainsaws, weed whips, etc.
  10. Looks for and reports tree and shrubbery illnesses and issues, reports observations to Naturalist and/or Parks Manager.
  11. Troubleshoots and resolves site drainage issues.
  12. Performs snow and ice removal functions including the safe operation of snowplows, snowblowers, salt spreaders, and shovels
  13.  Assists with special event preparation, operation and clean-up as required.
  14. Trains and delegates tasks to assigned seasonal and part-time employees.
  15. Performs job safely and in compliance with the park district's policies and procedures, work rules and safety rules.
  16. Maintains a clean and organized work environment including assigned vehicles, equipment, tool storage area, work sites, etc..
  17. Applies herbicides and fertilizer as deemed appropriate
  18.  Makes recommendations for improved operational efficiencies and cost control, risk management/safety, and access to parks and recreation services
 
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years related work experience including experience in landscaping, horticulture and grounds keeping. Preferred experience using field equipment, tractors, mowers, light and heavy trucks and a variety of hand and power tools. Requires expertise typically acquired through completion of a 2 year program in landscaping or horticulture. 

Must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License with excellent driving record.

State Pesticide Operator's License is preferred.  Required to pass pesticide exam within 6 months of beginning employment.

Physical requirements include: good speaking, hearing and vision ability, excellent manual dexterity, ability to lift and carry between 25 and 60 pounds frequently and over 60 pounds occasionally. Anything lifted over 50 pounds must be achieved with assistance (mechanical or team-lift).

Will require working outdoors in all weather conditions.  

Will work with exposure to chemicals including fertilizers, weed killers and cleaning agents.
