This is a newly created position. Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Recreation, the Cultural Arts Supervisor is responsible for oversight of the existing cultural arts programs which include all performing arts programming, youth and adult dance, theater, cultural youth programs and camps. Additionally, this position is responsible for the development of new cultural arts programming. Direct reports include dance coordinator, dance, and theater instructors along with providing leadership for contractual groups that we can partner with to increase our community offerings. This is a Recreation Department full-time position with a normal workweek of a minimum of 40 hours per week.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience:  A minimum of one to three years of supervisory experience in dance and/or cultural arts is required. 
  • Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Education, or related field is required.
  • Skills/Competencies:  Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the recreation industry. This person must possess creativity and the ability to initiate new concepts and programs. Possesses the knowledge and ability to organize, plan, and supervise a wide variety of programs, events, staff, volunteers, and facilities. Must be able to interpret customer needs and interests, as well as possess the ability to grasp ideas and concepts, and analyze and implement them. Must have the ability to prepare program budgets, manuals, and program guidelines for these areas. Must be able to work with various computer software applications and mobile devices. This position must possess a thorough knowledge of the recreation programs and facilities they will be responsible for including cultural arts, performing arts, volunteers, facility management, and other related operations. Knowledge of state, local and national standards in these areas is also important.
  • Certifications:  Must have a valid Driver’s License. First-Aid, CPR, AED certification or the ability to obtain this certification within 60 days of hire is required. Training provided by the Park District. CPRP certification preferred.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB 
  1. Expand the Park District’s Cultural Arts programming areas ensuring they are innovative, engaging, rewarding and fun for all participants; and that the current needs of the community is met. 
  2. Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates the Cultural and Performing Arts programming areas, including but not limited to visual arts, youth, and adult dance, Above the Barre dance team, music, theater, seasonal programming. 
  3. Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and provide schedules for all necessary staff and volunteers.
  4. Assist and lead Cultural Art special events and specialty programs.
  5. Prepare seasonal program, facility, and event information to be published by our Marketing Department.
  6. Prepare a budget and goals for your area annually and work to achieve these objectives.
  7. Works with WSRA (Warren Special Recreation Association) to coordinate Inclusion services for children with special needs. 
  8. Continually evaluate programs and facilities through direct observation, program evaluations and other methods of evaluation within the assigned area.
  9. Work cooperatively with other departments to ensure smooth program and facility operations.
  10. Submit work orders for needed repairs, program/event setups, and other maintenance.
  11. Prepare and deliver staff evaluations annually and provide oversight to your direct reports for evaluations they give to their staff.
  12. Provide oversight into the development and implementation of necessary manuals.
  13. Complete necessary records, statistics, and reports as assigned and follow departmental guidelines for receiving customer feedback.
  14. Respond to customers and staff within one business day.  When this is not possible, please indicate receipt of message and when they can expect a full response.
  15. Assure that the implementation of programs and services are safe and do not discriminate against age, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or disability.
  16. Attend and execute assigned components of the Gurnee Days Community Event. This event is scheduled annually the second full weekend in August. 
  17. Assist with award and accreditation submissions at federal, state, and local levels. 
  18. All other duties as assigned.
 ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Serve on internal committees as assigned.
  2. Serve on external committees as assigned.
  3. Assist the Director of Recreation with administrative duties, as needed.
  4. Assist the Executive Director in the absence of the Director of Recreation, as assigned.
 
HOURS AND COMPENSATION 
  • This is a Recreation Department full-time, exempt position with a normal workweek of a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • $46,000 - $55,000, annually. Starting salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of candidate.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Responsible for development and supervision of recreational programs, athletic programs and supervising Community Recreation Center. Coordinates activities of paid and volunteer recreational personnel. Trains personnel and evaluates performance. Interprets recreation service to public and participates in community meetings and organizational planning. 
 
Supervises clerical, technical staff, facility custodian, security, and recreation department.
 
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plans and implements athletic programs consistent with needs and desires of Foss Park District.
2. Responsible for day to day operation of Community Recreation Center. Coordinates routine maintenance of all systems i.e. heating, alarm, fire safety and drills and oversees general maintenance of the building. Regular safety inspection of facility and vehicles.
3. Prepares annual budget for the Recreation Department and makes recommendations for the purchase of supplies equipment and manpower requirements. Administers the budget as adopted by the Park Board. Monitors expenditures to maintain budget guidelines. Prepares P.O. and check request in accordance with established accounting procedures.
4. Attends monthly board meetings and scheduled staff meetings.
5. Assists in proper inventory of all supplies and materials. Assist Director in risk management to insure work performed and services provided are implemented in a safe manner.
6. Establishes and nurtures a positive public image. Attends regularly community meetings that have importance to the effective functioning of assigned program areas. Works closely with school officials of facilities that are used for programs and activities within area of responsibility.
7. Works cooperatively with the parks department in scheduling maintenance work.
8. Attends training seminars, and workshops as assigned.
9. Keeps current with needs of community and trends in recreation and athletics.
10.  Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
 
HOURS:
Superintendent of Recreation shall be on duty as required of the position or scheduled by the Executive Director.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Documents that establish both identity and employment eligibility are required.
 
Education:
·         Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Park Administration or related field preferred.
 
Experience:
At least two (2) years’ experience in recreation and athletic programming management.
 
Knowledge and Abilities:
·         General knowledge of recreation, parks and leisure field.
·         Working knowledge of facility management.
·         Considerable knowledge and ability to plan and organize and supervise recreation programs.
·         Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
 
Licenses:
·         Valid Illinois Driver’s License
 
Physical Requirement:

Overview:

Under the general supervision of the Volunteer and Events Manager, the Community Engagement and Event Manager is responsible for the coordination and expansion of community partnerships, community led special events and Naperville Park District special events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate community-wide special events and provide high-level administrative functions to organizers. Review and approve or seek approval of applications.
  2. Collect and evaluate appropriate paperwork for each event, including but not limited to certificates of insurance, permits, licenses and other event paperwork.
  3. Serve as the Naperville Park District point-of-contact for community-wide special event organizers and the City of Naperville special events staff.
  4. Coordinate and lead meetings with internal Park District staff, community partners and event organizers, including on-site logistical reviews.
  5. Participate in the organization and presentation of Special Event seminars.
  6. Provide resources and support to community event organizers and occasional “day of event” oversight, as necessary.
  7. Collaborate with the District’s Parks, Trades, Custodial and Park Police Departments on the logistical needs of community-wide events.
  8. Develop, plan, organize, and manage assigned District special events subject to the needs and interests of the community, and in support of the District’s mission, vision, and core values.
  9. Purchase, inspect, inventory, and initiate requests for repairs on program equipment and supplies.
  10. Coordinate the use of facilities, parks and services with related school districts, community organizations and contractual vendors. Modify activity schedules as needed to optimize utilization.
  11. Provide support to community partners. Including but not limited to, Kids Matter, Meals on Wheels, and Riverwalk Adult Day School.
  12. Prepare information for the District’s program guides and website, assist Marketing Department in the design and development of flyers, posters, brochures, and email marketing materials and distribute appropriately.
  13. Ensure the accurate and timely completion of independent contractor agreements and uphold terms of the agreements with contractual vendors.
  14. Assist with the development of the annual division budget and year end projections as outlined in the annual budget calendar. Communicate budgetary requests as needed. Continuously monitor budget performance throughout the year, adjusting for unexpected expenses or fluctuations in revenue as appropriate. Approve expenditures. Comply with District financial policies.
  15. Ensure confidential use of customer information

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Expand and enhance community partnerships to support community needs that align with the District’s mission.
  • Establish, support, and maintain collaborative efforts with internal and external customers and organizations.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Event Planning, Marketing, Recreation and Park Administration, Leisure Studies, Tourism or related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant fulltime work experience.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, CPRP certification within two (2) years of date of hire.
Special Considerations:

  • Subject to modified/flexible work schedules.
  • Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • Ability to move from site to site.
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate standard office and equipment and events equipment and supplies.
  • Face to face interactions with internal and external customers and co-workers are essential for this position. Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA) enriches the lives of children and adults with disabilities through a partnership with 17 Park Districts located within the northwest suburbs of Chicago.  NWSRA provides outstanding recreation opportunities for people with disabilities within our partner Park Districts through weekly programs, adult day programs (PURSUIT), special events, day camps and inclusion in Park District programs. NWSRA is a park district that serves people with disabilities. 

Job Summary: 
Coordinator positions currently open are Support Services Coordinator and Inclusion Coordinator.   Coordinator will assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate recreation and leisure programs for children and adults with disabilities. Assists the Support Services Manager with overseeing and managing part-time/seasonal employees in supporting programs for individuals.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of coordinating and implementing programs while working closely with agency teams to support individuals with disabilities in the least restrictive environment and the most inclusive settings. 
  • Responsible for developing, planning, and organizing recreation programs while working with assigned member districts coordinating before and after school care, preschool, general programs, special events, trips and summer day camp. 
  • Complete observations, assessments and follow up with the necessary paperwork, phone calls, and debriefing after each observation. 
  • Provide training for part-time/seasonal staff and member districts, when needed. 
  • Demonstrate ability to troubleshoot and address behaviors, programming issues, and concerns regarding program issues and participant behaviors.
Qualifications:  
Graduate from accredited college or university with a BA/BS degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field of study. Must have knowledge of and ability to confidently work effectively with individuals with disabilities. Current National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) or the ability to get certified within an allotted amount of time determined by the policy of the Association and/or the Executive Director. 

Scheduling:
This is a full-time, exempt position. Weekly schedule is generally 40 – 45 hours. Weekends and evenings occasionally based on schedule.

DESCRIPTION
The Recreation Intern is a temporary position that reports to the Director of Recreation. The Recreation Intern will be exposed to a broad range of Park District and Recreation Management concepts, situations, and experiences meant to provide additional training and educational experience to college students who wish to find a position in the field of Recreation (or similar) field upon the completion of their undergraduate or graduate degree. Being selected as a Recreation Intern does not guarantee employment with the Gurnee Park District upon completion. Recreation Interns should be available to work consistent with the hours prescribed by their college or university program which will include evenings and /or weekends.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Director of Recreation and experienced Park District staff, Recreation Interns will have the opportunity to expand their education:
  • Assist with development, implementation, and evaluation of a variety of Park District activities, events, and projects, including aquatic services, customer service, community events, fitness operations, athletics, summer camps, senior and adult programs and virtual programs.
  • Collaborate with other Department Heads (Business Services, Marketing and Parks) to ensure working knowledge of all areas. Complete assigned tasks in areas outside of the recreation department as necessary to ensure a well-rounded experience.
  • Assist with implementation and execution of assigned Gurnee Days Festival activities.
  • Contribute to the development of marketing and promotional initiatives for Gurnee Park District.
  • Complete reports, evaluations, and documentation for participant and staff feedback.
  • Review and update assigned manuals and training process ensuring consistency across programs.
  • Assist with the scheduling, training, and providing direction for part-time/temporary and volunteer staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Must be a student in good academic standing currently enrolled in, or have recently completed, a college undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Skills: Must be able to take direction and assist in planning, leading, managing, troubleshooting and evaluating recreational events, programs and facilities. Must be comfortable in front of large crowds of people, and comfortable leading activities. Must work well with people of all ages, especially children. Must be able to use basic reading, writing, and computer skills to learn, understand, and apply Park District policies and procedures.
  • Certifications: Valid Driver’s License, First-Aid, CPR, and AED certification (or ability to obtain one within first 2 weeks of hire training provided)
  • Competencies: Candidates must demonstrate through a personal interview and reference check that they are able to work with people of all ages, especially children, and possess a basic knowledge of the Recreation Industry such that they can understand the tasks they will be provided.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  1. Movement of supplies, equipment and uniforms is necessary, generally up to 50 lbs. Bending, twisting and kneeling may be necessary in support of the programming areas.
  2. Work performed will be at indoor and outdoor environments so exposure to the sun, light rain, wind, and other weather factors who should be expected as well as exposure to extreme temperatures while working outdoors.
