SUMMARY: The Deerfield Park District is seeking an experienced full-time Landscape Maintenance Specialist. This position is responsible for performing maintenance tasks of park grounds and facilities throughout the district including but not limited to: installation and maintenance of trees, shrubs, plant beds, wetlands, native plants, nature trails, application of chemical control including pre and post emergent herbicides, fungicides and insecticides, turf and athletic field maintenance including mowing, trimming, aerating, fertilizing, irrigation and over seeding. Other duties and responsibilities include: building/shelter repairs and cleaning, snow removal and ice rink maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be of sound physical condition in order to perform heavy manual labor in all types of weather conditions. Minimum high school graduate or equivalent. Must have a valid driver's license and be at least 18 years of age. Prior experience and knowledge of parks maintenance and native plants is preferred. Must have experience and ability in operating a variety of landscape equipment including tractors, skid steers, mowers, utility vehicles, trailers, hand power tools, chain saws, etc. Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and public. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Must have or be able to obtain an Illinois Pesticide Operators License and Chain Saw Certification within first 6 months of employment.
HOURS: M - F, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Weekend and evening work as required.
