JOB PURPOSE: This Recreation Specialist is responsible for the development, management, and promotion of WSSRA’s seasonal programs with an emphasis in young adult programs. This position will assist in trainings, special events, and overnight trips for individuals with disabilities. This position requires some night and weekend availability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: • Creating, designing and supervising seasonal programs and Special events. • Develop individual program plans, goal writing and tracking participant’s progress. • Paperwork - planning programs, complete weekly and final program evaluations and complete seasonal part-time/volunteer staff evaluations. • Gathering, loading, transporting and setting up equipment.. • Supervision and care of individuals, including behavior management, dispensing medication, and assistance in daily self-care. • File incident reports and perform emergency care in accordance to WSSRA safety program. • Computer work, program calendars and memos to staff and families. • Consistently communicate with parents/guardians. • Provide activities for day and away trips. • Perform orientation and training of seasonal part-time staff, volunteers and new employees. • Prepare for and attend special events. • Assist in the supervision, recruitment, training and evaluation of part-time supervisors for programs and special events. • Actively support WSSRA risk management program including enforcing safety rules, reporting accidents and injuries, and developing ideas for the prevention of future incidents. • Drive to and from programs and facilities.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: • Establish relationships with outside organizations; network with related organizations. • Transporting participants and others in agency vehicle to and from WSSRA offerings. • Picking up general materials (i.e. printed brochures, special supplies) • Attending agency meetings, as well as for state and local organizations.
