Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor
Description:
This is a new position at the Channahon Park District that works in conjunction with Special Recreation Joliet/Channahon (SRJC). This position will be Channahon Park District’s representative in SRJC.
Responsible for the planning, developing, implementing, facilitating, and evaluating therapeutic recreation programs and events for special populations.
Inclusion Coordinator
Demonstrate an understanding of the inclusion process and work to support individuals with disabilities in the least restrictive environment and the most inclusive setting.
Work involves planning for the integration of recreation therapy services into the overall agency, program or event, budgeting, developing policies, procedures, and standards, determining the type of recreational therapy services needed, developing in-service training for staff, and serving as a resource to other program and facility areas for the purpose of participant inclusion.
Responsible for all the inclusion services for the districts including all early childhood through adult programming.
Responsible for responding to inclusion requests, development of program plans, observation of programs, and evaluating programs for accessibility.
Create and assemble lesson plans including measurable and effective program goals and objectives, schedules, rosters, and supplies. Evaluate assigned programs.
Prepare materials and plan activities.
Lead programs and conduct inclusion site visits at programs.
Always maintain participant’s safety.
Evaluate the participant’s skill level.
Complete observations, assessments and follow up with the necessary paperwork, phone calls, and debriefing after each observation.
Supervise program participants including behavior management, personal care, and other skills necessary for the overall independence and participating
Demonstrate ability to troubleshoot and address behaviors, programming issues, and concerns regarding the inclusion placement and the inclusion process.
Hours may include nights and weekends.
Qualifications:
BA/BS in Therapeutic Recreation or related field required
1-2 years of direct experience working with special populations, program planning and behavior management
(CTRS) Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist certification or ability to obtain within the first year of employment.
Willingness to work evening and weekend hours is required
