The Parks Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing maintenance tasks of park grounds and facilities throughout the district including but not limited to: installation, maintenance and repair of landscaping, playgrounds, athletic fields, hard surface courts, park amenities, fencing, signage, drainage, concrete, and asphalt.

Other duties and responsibilities include building shelter repairs, cleaning, painting, carpentry, tree trimming, and removals, turf and athletic field maintenance including mowing, trimming, aerating, fertilizing, irrigation, over seeding, application of chemical control including pre- and post-emergent herbicides, fungicides and insecticides along with snow removal, ice rink maintenance and garbage/refuse removal. Qualifications:

Applicants must be of sound physical condition in order to perform heavy manual labor in all types of weather conditions.

Minimum High School Graduate or equivalent.

Must have a valid Driver’s License and be at least 18 years of age.

Prior experience and knowledge of parks maintenance and native plants is preferred.

Must have experience and ability in operating a variety of landscape equipment including tractors, skid steers, riding mowers, utility vehicles, trailers, hand power tools, chain saws, etc.

Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and public.

Must be able to read, write and speak English and bilingual Spanish a plus.

Must be able to obtain an Illinois Pesticide Operators License and Chain Saw Safety Certification within the first year of employment.

Full-Time, Non-Exempt Position.

Hours are M – F, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Weekend and evening work as required.

Rate of Pay: $23.00//hr. - $25.00/hr. depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefit package.
