SUMMARY -

The Maintenance Worker performs maintenance and repair of preserve grounds and facilities. Maintains preserve areas, including turf, trees, play fields, preserve buildings, playgrounds, parking lots, winter sports areas, and trails. Applies pesticides and herbicides. Performs inspections of grounds, noting needed repairs, ensuring preserve is free of hazards and is safe for public use. Operates mowers, tractors and other equipment used in grounds maintenance. Performs snow removal duties. Participates in natural resource management by participating in prescribed burns, clearing and invasive species control. Drives a motorized vehicle to travel to different locations. Performs tasks that will require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting. Performs heavy lifting tasks up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

EXPERIENCE -

Possess minimum of high school diploma/GED. Two years of experience relating to grounds maintenance. Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment related to grounds maintenance. Ability to obtain an Illinois Public Pesticide Operator’s License. Must possess a valid driver’s license, and have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License with an air-brake endorsement within six months.
