Recreation Internship (Summer 2023)

SUMMARY

The Glenview Park District is proud to offer a paid RECREATION INTERNSHIP for college students designed to provide hands-on practical experience in one of the largest and most unique park districts in Illinois. Interns have an opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real world situations, explore the diverse operations of the Glenview Park District, complete and present a special project to the Park District’s leadership team, network with other recreation professionals, and develop the skills necessary to be successful in a parks and recreation career. Interns will have the opportunity to attend committee meetings with elected officials, work in a variety of facilities across the district, and act as a contributing staff member throughout the duration of the internship.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified internship applicants should be current college students. Parks and Recreation majors encouraged, but not required. Applicants must possess a positive disposition in a fast-paced environment, adaptable, and able to think strategically. Interns should have the ability to multitask and prioritize projects based on importance. Strong computer skills and the ability to work cooperatively with the public and staff are a must.

SCHEDULING & PAY

This 10-12-week internship position reports directly to the Division Director of Recreation and Museum Services. Interns will be paid $15.00/hour to be paid on a biweekly basis. Interns are expected to work a 40-hour workweek, from 8:30 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday. Some evenings and weekends may be required. Interns are expected to assist with select park district events throughout the duration of the internship, including the Glenview Fourth of July Celebration.
