Director of Parks and Recreation

The City of Manhattan, Kansas, is located in Riley County in the heart of northeast Kansas’ scenic Flint Hills. The City of Manhattan is seeking a dynamic, innovative and politically astute leader with exceptional communication skills and strong financial acumen to lead the Parks & Recreation Department.

The minimum educational requirement for this position is a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Parks Management, Recreation Management or a related field AND at least five (5) years of leadership experience in public administration, local government, or a related field. Knowledge and experience related to municipal management and/or leading a similar-sized agency/organization are highly desirable.

The full salary range for this position is $113,214 to $180,814 with a hiring range of $113,214 to $146,910, dependent upon experience and qualifications. The City of Manhattan offers an excellent benefits package that includes group health plan that includes wellness, medical, vision, dental, and prescription drug benefits. City employees are required by statute to contribute to the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS) and receive long-term disability coverage.
