The United City of Yorkville is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Maintenance Worker I in the City’s Parks Department. Duties of this entry level position include working in the Athletic, Turf, and Playground Divisions. This position can require after hours work and weekend shifts. In the winter season, snow plowing duties during and after normal working hours is required.

The Maintenance Worker I performs a variety of tasks using manual labor and should be able to operate and be familiar with the following: line trimmer, edger, hedger, blower, zero turn mower, wing style mowers, sod stripper, infield groomer, and chainsaw. They should also be able to drive a truck with a trailer and load and unload equipment. The work often requires extensive physical strength and endurance including the ability to stand, bend, pull, push, kneel, regularly lift more than 75 pounds at any time, and to withstand exposure to the elements. This person is expected to work outside in all conditions.

The essential job duties for this position include daily turf and beautification maintenance of park and city owned property. Including mowing, rolling, aerating, line trimming, edging, pruning, weed control and trash control. Other duties including seeding, fertilizing, woodland maintenance, and mower maintenance. Performs landscape maintenance including watering, weeding, mulching, planting and shrub and tree trimming.

One to three years of park maintenance experience or relevant maintenance experience is preferred (but not required). Small engine repair, mechanical skill or construction trades knowledge are a plus. The qualified applicant should hold a class B CDL (or required to obtain within 6 months of hire) with air brake endorsement and be willing to obtain a USDA operator pesticide license within 12 months of hire. Must be a self-starter and work well with others. Excellent customer service skills and a high school diploma or equivalent are required.
