AHPD OVERVIEW

The Arlington Heights Park District (AHPD) is one of the most noteworthy park districts in Illinois. Located 25 miles northwest from downtown Chicago, AHPD is the 3rd largest Park District in Cook County and the 12th largest in the State of Illinois. Since 1925, AHPD continues to enrich the community by providing fun, accessible, and impactful recreation and facilities for every age and every season. The District are stewards of five community centers with outdoor pools, two tennis clubs, Lake Arlington, Arlington Ridge Center, two public golf clubs and a driving range, Arlington Heights Historical Museum, Senior Center, 58 parks, 44 playgrounds, 22 miles of jogging and bike trails across 714 acres of land. AHPD is a three times National Gold Medal Award recipient for excellence in the field of parks and recreation management and an Illinois Distinguished Accredited Agency.

GENERAL SENIOR CENTER INFORMATION

The Arlington Heights Senior Center is comprised of eight independent agencies working cooperatively to enhance the lives of the 55+ community in Arlington Heights and neighboring communities. The Arlington Heights Park District plays an integral role in providing recreational programming at the Senior Center as well as AHPD facilities throughout the Village of Arlington Heights. Programming at the Senior Center includes fitness & wellness programs, art and dance classes, cards and crafts including quilting and crochet. In addition, the Park District runs a day-tour program as well as the Senior Center’s wood shop, athletic club and gift shop.

JOB SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Join our Recreation Department programming staff as a key member of our team that works cooperatively with the Village of Arlington Heights, and the seven other partnering agencies at the Senior Center. The main focus of the position is to oversee all senior programing at the District as well as the daily operation and administration of the Park District offices at the Senior Center. The position oversees a team of part-time staff including guest service staff, tour club coordinator, wood shop coordinator, program instructors and volunteers. Creatively plan seasonal recreation programs geared to engage and support our participants to live well and age well. If you are looking for an opportunity to lead and grow, this is the job for you!

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

BA/BS in Parks and Recreation or closely related field from an accredited college or university,

Minimum of three or more years of demonstrated success as a recreation administrator or programmer for seniors,

CPRP Certification preferred,

Or, any equivalent combination of education, experience and training,

Valid Illinois Class “D” Driver’s License,

CPR and AED Certification required upon hire
