Itasca is a 9,200 resident community, west of Chicago. It is governed by a 5 member Board of Commissioners and employs 14 Full -Time and over 250 Part-Time Employees, with a $5.8M budget. The District is a 3X Gold Medal Award Winning Agency and boasts 144 acres of parks, 8 playgrounds, nature center, bird sanctuary, athletic fields, waterpark, museum and 40,000 sqft, Recreation & Fitness Center. Position Focus:
The Parks/Facility Laborer is responsible for the maintenance, landscaping and repair of the District’s Park/Facility System. General work hours are a minimum of 40 hours a week. General work hours take place Monday through Friday, with some evening and weekend hours due to the nature of special events, meetings and under the direction of the Superintendent of Buildings & Parks.
Qualifications:
Applicant must be 21 years or older. The candidate must possess a valid class D driver’s license. A minimum of high school graduation education, but preferably a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Park District maintenance experience such as basic carpentry, concrete, electrical, HVAC, project troubleshooting and basic Facility/Park Operation is preferred. Pool maintenance experience is preferred but not required.
The individual will be trained on general park/facility maintenance, including, but not limited to mowing, fertilizing, seeding, weed control; athletic field maintenance, baseball field maintenance, landscaping, construction of playgrounds, winter maintenance (i.e. snow plowing and snow removal), operations of vehicles and tools, facility maintenance, outdoor aquatic maintenance and more. The individual should possess friendly and effective interpersonal, written, verbal and telephone communication skills. The individual will be expected to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED & Pesticide Inspection certifications. Other certifications may be required as deemed necessary.
