The Company:

The Wheaton Park District is one of the finest park systems in Illinois and has been recognized many times in the past 20 years. As part of our Parks and Planning department you will contribute to maintaining our beautiful parks and facilities throughout the district.

The Position:

What will you do?

  • Responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of all pool facilities and immediate grounds.
  • Attendance at work site as scheduled; must be available to work other shifts and overtime as required.
  • Assist in developing guidelines for use of facilities.
  • Maintain water chemistry and all other operations of District pools during season.
  • Assist with supervision and train night maintenance staff at pools.
  • Assist with purchasing, installing, maintaining, and repairing inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Assist in preparing annual budget.
  • Assist in maintaining current and accurate records pertaining to pools.
  • Assist in planning for departments’ goals and objectives.
  • Assist with general upkeep of all pool facilities and immediate grounds.
  • Assemble and maintain ice rinks and assist with snow removal at any time during a 24-hour period.
  • Work with immediate supervisor and independent contractors to schedule projects during pool season.
  • Open and closes Northside Family Aquatic Center and Rice Pool and Water Park during season.
  • Conduct safety inspections.
  • Motivate staff to improve work performance.
  • Train pool staff on emergency situations and general functions at the pools.
  • Maintain effective two-way communication while dealing with concerns in the field with all district staff and immediate supervisor.
  • Carry two way or cell phone communication at all times.
  • Wear personal protective equipment for job function when needed.
The Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, we are looking for:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent with at least three (3) years' experience in work related to facility maintenance required.
  • Knowledge of heating, plumbing, and electrical repairs preferred, but not required.
  • Training provided to the successful applicant with related, but not direct experience.
  • Must have or obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate within six (6) months of employment.
  • Must have great problem solving, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have good time management skills and work calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • Must have and maintain: a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • CPR/AED certified or obtain within one (1) month of employment.
  • Must be able to move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and over 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Must be able to frequently move about the facility and pool area and position one’s self for maintenance and repair.
  • Must be able to handle all weather conditions while working outdoors.

HOURS

Shifts vary during pool season. Tuesday thru Saturday or Sunday thru Thursday.

Time: 6:00am - 2:00pm during pool season. Off season is Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:00pm.
