Position Summary

Maintenance Worker


 Starting $22.00 to $27.00 DOQ

Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Parks, this position is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and/or repair work to park properties, pool, and equipment. 

Qualifications:

Employee must be High School graduate, or equivalent is required. Four years’ park experience, and advanced training is preferred in the following areas of HVAC, Pool Operations, Electrical, Plumbing and Carpentry.  Employee must have a valid Illinois driver's license and be able to provide own transportation to and from work. Landscapers Applicator Licenses; OSHA 30-hour certificate; Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) preferred or ability to obtain these licenses and/or certifications within the first year of employment.
 
Upon conditional job offer, the candidate will be subject to background check and drug test. 

Essential Functions:

Receives instructions from the Superintendent of Parks and Maintenance Foreman, regarding daily work assignments.

Works in all areas of the Parks Department including buildings, landscaping, turf, playgrounds, and athletic field maintenance.

Ensures that accidents and injuries are tendered to and reported immediately.

Operates all district equipment including trucks, power mowers, tractors, edger’s, trimmers, power tools, and snow blowers but not limited to.

Provides landscaping care to flower/shrub beds in parks and facilities.

Removes all refuse and debris from all park areas and facilities daily.

Applies herbicides and fertilizer as deemed appropriate.

Provide safe, prompt, and efficient snow/ice removal in winter.

Maintain all park equipment to the highest standards.

Availability:

The hours of the maintenance staff, Monday through Friday; 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. At the discretion of the Superintendent of Parks employees may be scheduled to start earlier or start later. At the discretion of the Superintendent of Park an employee may also be scheduled to work a Saturday or Sunday and will be given another day off on that work week.

Overtime hours are expected due to inclement weather, emergency call in, weekend field preparation, special events etc. Scheduling of the overtime shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent of Parks.
