JOB SUMMARY
Designated a National Historic Landmark, The Grove is 150 acres of ecologically diverse land preserved and maintained by Glenview Park District. This role is responsible for performing a wide variety of restoration tasks including invasive species control, seed collection, planting, weeding and prescribed burning. General maintenance and assistance with special events are also responsibilities of this role.
Duties include, but are not limited, to:
- Assisting with removal of invasive species via mechanical and chemical control
- Assisting with planting of trees and native plugs
- Conducting basic maintenance on small engine equipment and hand tools
- Performing all seasonal work assignments (e.g. seed collecting, watering etc)
- Completing landscaping activities as applicable to the restoration team (planting, mowing, raking, chipping, etc.)
- Participating in preparing for controlled burns, including prepping firebreaks.
- Assisting with field-based vegetation and wildlife monitoring.
- Maintaining trail safety and cleanliness as needed.
- Leading individual volunteers and volunteer groups.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience. Knowledge of restoration techniques, plant identification and local ecosystems is desired. Please note that this position requires the ability to use grounds equipment, tools and regularly lift 40 pounds and as such candidates should have sufficient strength and mobility to complete duties.
PAY & SCHEDULING
This is a year-round, part-time position, working approximately 20-30 hours/week. Applicants must be able to work a varied schedule including some nights and weekends as required. Starting pay is $18/hour, dependent on qualifications.
