The Northfield Park District is seeking qualified, enthusiastic, energetic, detail-oriented, and motivated individuals with excellent communication skills to assist in the operations of all parks, facilities, and grounds.
The Parks & Facilities Technician helps oversee the maintenance of the Park District’s parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, facilities, and equipment in accordance with the general policies established by the Park Board of Commissioners.
Job Summary:
The Parks & Facilities Technician position is responsible for the operation of equipment used for mowing, landscaping, snow removal, athletic field and general turf maintenance, custodial duties, and other related tasks, including manual labor.
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, equipment and vehicle maintenance, irrigation repairs, landscape care, trash removal, custodial duties, building maintenance, event set-up, outdoor ice rink maintenance, playground inspection and repair, and assist with the supervision of part time and seasonal employees. This position works both indoors and outdoors maintaining all district facilities and parks. Increased custodial duties may be required during the summer camp season and as needed throughout the year.
Position Qualifications:
The qualified individual should possess a working knowledge of the operation and use of specialized and heavy motor equipment related to park maintenance activities. Basic knowledge of hand tools, carpentry, painting, electrical work, and plumbing is required. High school graduate or equivalent. Two years of park and/or landscape maintenance experience preferred. Must maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s License and possess a good driving record. Must be able to obtain and maintain an Illinois Pesticide Operator's license. Must have or obtain certification in CPR, First Aid and AED within six months of employment.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
The person will be required to be able to lift, turn and carry 50 pounds, and place this load on shelves at chest height to fulfill this requirement. This person must be able to stand and/or sit for long stretches of time and be able to operate all Park District Trucks and equipment. Also, this person must have the ability to inspect facilities, equipment, and program space and to ambulate in tight areas to perform necessary maintenance as needed. The individual may be required to work during various weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures as well as rain and snow.
Schedule:
The Parks & Facilities Technician is a full-time non-exempt position, typically working 40 hours per week Monday-Friday, but hours and schedule may vary by season. Occasional overtime and other weekend or evening work may also be required.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary Range is $50,000+ DOQ.
