The Village of Orland Park’s Recreation Department seeks an energetic and enthusiastic leader to join our team as an Aquatics & Ice Rink Manager. In this full-time position you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Centennial Park Aquatic Center (CPAC) and the Winter Wonderland Ice Rink (Ice Rink). CPAC is a 135-150 strong lifeguard facility, which prides itself on a culture of excellence in skills, while creating a fun, supportive environment for staff.
Similar to CPAC, the Ice Rink promotes a culture of fun and responsibility as we serve our constituents through free skating, a warming house, skate rentals, special events, and weekly bonfires.
Key Responsibilities
The Manager position is a highly visible leader, coach, and mentor directly responsible for the delivery of the StarGuard Elite Lifeguard Certification Program certifying 18 CPAC leadership team members, 135-150 lifeguards, and 10-15 learn-to-swim instructors. In addition to training delivery, the Manager is responsible for all pre-season training and all peripheral and administrative duties related to training.
The Manager serves as the key leader, role model and expert, integrating him/herself among the CPAC leadership team building a cohesive, high functioning leadership team, that together direct all operations at CPAC and the Ice Rink. As such, the Manager will assume all responsibilities related to building/training/leading/supervising these teams and all operational functions of each facility while working collaboratively with the CPAC leadership team, the Recreation and Parks Director and Assistant Director.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
The successful Manager will work days/hours necessary to develop high functioning teams and operations. This will include becoming familiar with operations by working a variety of shifts that will include early morning, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree. StarGuard ELITE 2 Star Instructor Certification is highly preferred. A minimum of three to five (3-5) years leading a team in an aquatics environment of similar size and complexity is desirable.
Excellent candidates will have a proven history of customer focused service, dealing with a variety of tasks and setting priorities in a fast paced, interactive environment and should thrive on the dynamic of leading/building/interacting with a team of motivated/involved staff toward common goals. A collaborative, highly communicative, leadership style is required.
This position requires a flexible schedule during preseason lifeguard training, the ramp up to opening day, and throughout the pool season (Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day) to achieve the objective of this position. Preseason includes attending two weekday evening and weekend training sessions. In-season, the Aquatics/Ice Rink Manager will work with a variety of hours including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays to successfully support the safe operation of the Centennial Park Aquatic Center. The successful candidate will work to achieve a work-life balance, while meeting the objective and expectations of this position.
Compensation & Benefits
Annual salary $76,969.00 - $107,754.00, DOQ. This position is eligible for the Village of Orland Park’s comprehensive employee benefits program which includes multiple medical plan designs offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, dental, vision, life insurance, and an employee wellness program. Retirement benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) are provided along with the option to participate in a 457(b) plan with Nationwide Retirement Services.
