Park Projects Specialist

The Company

The Wheaton Park District is one of the finest park systems in Illinois and has been recognized many times in the past 20 years. As part of our Parks and Planning department you will contribute to maintaining our beautiful parks and facilities throughout the district.

The Position:

What will you do?

  • You would be responsible for assisting in construction projects and major repairs related to park and recreation facilities, grounds, and equipment throughout the District.
  • Perform park facility routine and preventive maintenance repairs.
  • Implement park development plans individually or as part of a crew.
  • Perform equipment and building construction projects.
  • Assist with playground repair and installation.
  • Construct, install, maintain, and repair district signs as needed.
  • Install, maintain, and repair general landscape and hard surface improvements throughout the District.

The Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, we are looking for:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two years’ experience in park maintenance, building construction, land development, or related field; or associate's degree in construction related field required.
  • Knowledge and skill required in two or more of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete finishing, masonry, or landscape construction required.
  • Must have and maintain: a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; and CPR/AED certified or obtain within one (1) year of employment.
  • Able to move objects such as drywall, lumber, tables, tents, ladders, etc. weighing up to 50 lbs., and bags of concrete, play sand, etc. over 50 lbs. with assistance.
