Golf Maintenance Lead

We are excited to announce an opening for the newly created full-time position of Golf Maintenance Lead at Steeple Chase Golf Club.

Established in 1954, Mundelein Park & Recreation District has 34 park sites offering over 735 acres of open space, playgrounds, ballfields, lakes and trails. We offer over 650 seasonal programs, including: dance, youth sports, tennis, karate, golf, gymnastics, adult and youth leagues, swim instruction, art, fitness and wellness, culinary, adult day trips, science classes, and day camps. In addition, we host over 20 annual events, many free to the public.

Steeple Chase Golf Club is a Ken Killian-designed course nestled on over 200 beautiful acres. Summary 
The Golf Maintenance Lead reports to the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. Responsible for assisting in the daily management and operations of the golf course and handling specific tasks assigned.  Effectively and independently work alongside groups of staff to complete special projects in a productive manner. Other responsibilities include assisting in all aspects of cultural practices, proper operation and repair of the irrigation system, and proper operation of equipment. Responsible for performing the duties outlined in this analysis. Work is performed at a moderate, constant pace, but may vary slightly depending on the demands of the job required. 

Qualifications – Education, Experience and Training
Must have one-to-three years of experience in golf course maintenance or related field of study with an emphasis on highly skilled projects involving irrigation systems, construction, and turf management. Current state of Illinois driver’s license. Minimum high school graduate or general education degree (GED) preferred with additional training or education related to the duties and responsibilities of the position. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. CPR, First Aid and AED Certification required within six months of employment. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions 
  • Operates, maintains and repairs irrigation system, including leaks on the distribution lines, valve risers, 
  • electrical system, and irrigation control wire.Performs preventative maintenance on the irrigation system.
  • Manage inventories and keep up the stock of all irrigation parts and tools.
  • Reports any irrigation issues to supervisor.
  • Assist with supervising of staff for special projects, and performs other duties as directed by Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
  • Prioritizes irrigation issues and uses time efficiently.
  • Operate tractors, skid loaders, trucks, mowers, small equipment, and various hand tools including chainsaws.
  • Perform the installation and maintenance of above and below ground drainage.
  • Reports golf course conditions to the Golf Course superintendent or Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.

Pay and Benefits
This is a full-time, non- exempt position.  The hiring wage range is $17.30 - $21.63, depending on qualifications.   The full wage range is $17.30 - $25.96.  Our full-time benefit package includes:
