Our CAPRA and Distinguished Agency accredited, NRPA Gold Medal, and IPRA Champions for Change award-winning agency is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as the Superintendent of Recreation. This leadership position is responsible for managing all Youth, Adult, Preschool, Camp, Special Events, Pioneer, Athletic, and General Programming, as well as overseeing the Park District’s inclusion services. The Superintendent of Recreation directly supervises the staff necessary to maintain and grow these programs, ensuring they meet the high standards and diverse needs of the community. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills, creativity, and a passion for public service to help advance the District’s mission of enhancing the quality of life through exceptional parks, programs, and services.

The Superintendent of Recreation reports directly to the Director of Recreation and Communications. 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation or related field.  
  • Five or more years of recreation programming, supervisory, and facility management experience in the parks and recreation field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of the theory and philosophy of recreation management and the ability to interpret this philosophy to others.
  • Experience in the management of inclusion services.
  • Basic knowledge of computers.
  • A valid Illinois Driver's License is required.  
  • Ability to become a Certified Park and Recreation Professional by passing the CPRP exam.
  • CPR / AED certification is required, and training will be provided by the Park District.
