Agriculture Programs Coordinator at Volkening Heritage Farm (full-time, $50,100-$61,100/year)

ABOUT US: The Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning public agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational facilities, programs, events, parks and open spaces. Volkening Heritage Farm at Spring Valley is an 1880s living history farm which interprets the lives of Schaumburg’s German American settlers during the late 19th century. The site features historic buildings, authentically dressed interpreters, hands-on activities, livestock, period farm equipment, and a visitor center/museum store. The facility hosts a seasonal daily interpretive program and various special events, group programs and camps.
 
JOB SUMMARY: The Agricultural Programs Coordinator reports to the Heritage Farm Program Supervisor and is responsible for daily and seasonal interpretation and demonstration of late 19th century agricultural practices as well as the day-to-day care of resident livestock along with the site’s agricultural landscape. In addition, this individual will supervise other staff and volunteers in day-to-day care of livestock and general operation of the farm’s agricultural activities.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:The best applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Agricultural Science, American History, or related field, along with at least two (2) years’ experience in each of the following areas: living history museum operations, public program presentation, equine care, and the use of draft animals to operate farm equipment. Experience with the management of dairy cattle and dairy operations, including machine and hand milking, and health maintenance is desirable. Familiarity with hand tools, basic carpentry, and landscape equipment is also desirable.
 
PAY, BENEFITS & WORK SCHEDULE
This is a full-time year-round exempt position. Core hours are typically Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5pm with additional night and weekend work required during peak seasons. Target hiring range is $50,100 - $61,100 per year DOQ (depending on qualifications). Our full-time benefits package includes:
