Park Specialist I - Horticulturist
The Naperville Park District is looking for a qualified candidate to join our park maintenance department as a Park Specialist I. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional in the area of horticulture, general landscape or park maintenance to utilize their skills in a team environment to make a positive impact on the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform a wide variety of park maintenance tasks including but not limited to; horticultural care of flower and shrub landscape beds, trail and natural area maintenance, playground inspections, and custodial duties on a daily basis.
- Provide guidance and direction to assigned seasonal staff or volunteer groups.
- Obtain quotes, purchase and install plant material, develop and execute maintenance plan for assigned flower and shrub beds, perform required fertilizer or chemical applications.
- Assist with natural area maintenance, prescribed burning, and invasive removal.
- Winter duties to include snow removal on assigned sidewalks and trails
- Clean and maintain parks through litter pickup, garbage removal, recycling activities, and conduct scheduled inspections to district amenities as assigned.
- Support special event set up, tear down and maintenance during the event.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the methods and of forestry, turf, and horticulture development and maintenance.
- Demonstrate abilities to apply fertilizers and pesticides at manufacturer's application rates.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in parks and grounds maintenance, or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certification and Licenses:
- Must hold a valid Class D driver's license
- Must possess CPR/First Aid certificates within six months of hiring, provided by the Park District
- Valid State of Illinois Pesticide Operator and Applicator License in ornamentals or right-of-way or the ability to obtain the license within six months of employment
