Assistant Director of Grounds
Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 is seeking a dedicated, experienced, and motivated Assistant Director of Grounds to help lead the district’s grounds operations. This key leadership role reports to the Director of Facilities in ensuring that all district grounds, athletic fields, and outdoor environments are safe, functional, and visually appealing for our students, staff, and community.

As the Assistant Director of Grounds, you will:
- Lead, train, and supervise the district’s grounds team, ensuring top-quality performance and safety.
- Coordinate and manage all aspects of grounds care — from athletic field maintenance and irrigation repair to snow and ice removal.
- Oversee purchasing, budgeting, and resource planning for grounds operations.
- Collaborate with the Director of Facilities on long-term master planning and improvement projects including bid procurement.
Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and pesticide regulations. - Foster strong working relationships with staff, administrators, and community partners.
- Uphold the district’s mission, vision, and goals while supporting a positive, professional workplace culture.
An ideal candidate will bring:
- 3–5 years of experience in groundskeeping or landscaping, including athletic field maintenance.
- Proven leadership and supervisory skills in managing a maintenance or grounds team.
- Expertise in the operation, maintenance, and repair of landscaping and grounds equipment.
- Strong organizational, budgeting, and project management skills.
- The ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple projects across a large school district.
- A proactive mindset, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (college coursework preferred).
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License and insurability.
- Illinois Pesticide Applicator License (must maintain/retest every 3 years).
Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification preferred. - Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and background check.
- Willingness to work extended hours as needed, including during inclement weather events.
