Job Description:
The Village of North Riverside is searching for a Recreation Coordinator who will be responsible for the development, planning and coordination of recreation classes, trips and special events. This role plays a key part in community outreach and promotion. Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, staffing, marketing, evaluating of programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Planning, coordinating and facilitating of programs, and events including but not limited to Senior Programs, Adult Programs and Special Events.
  • Coordinate planned trips with outside agency.
  • Develop a recruitment strategy for a strong volunteer program and coordinate program to ensure the program is effective, sustainable, and rewarding.
  • Develop and implement a department outreach program which brings awareness to all department services, programs and facilities rentals.
  • Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures for the department.
  • Maintain a working relationship with area media, schools, library and other agencies and businesses to work together and build community partnerships.
  • Advertise and market all offerings including brochure development, flyers, community signs and social media as needed, working with outside agencies.
  • Assist in gathering information needed to complete grant requests.
  • Develop budgets for programs and events.  Monitor budget income and expenditures. Complete evaluations and financial reports.

Desired Qualifications:

Training, Education, and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Administration or related field preferred.
  • 2-5 years of full-time experience in field preferred or combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of parks and recreation programming 
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision; a self-starter
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, recreation registration software and the ability to learn new applications as needed
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and personnel.

Selection Considerations:

Formal application, rating of education and experience, oral interview and reference check, and job-related tests may be required.

Salary:
The salary range for this position is between $53,000 and $58,000 with starting salary
 commensurate with knowledge, skill and experience. A comprehensive benefits package is offered. The position participates in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
