TITLE: Recreation Supervisor – Athletics, Rentals and Camp
CATEGORY: Full-Time

SUMMARY:

The Recreation Supervisor–Athletics, Rentals and Camp is responsible for the creation, implementation, and oversight of athletic programming and rentals, as well as the administration of all summer camp operations, excluding preschool-aged camps. The position also includes overseeing and serving as the primary contact person for contractual instructors. This full-time, exempt role requires a minimum of 40 hours per week. Work pace is moderate to active depending on tasks, and the position requires the ability to lift 30 lbs. or more.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Parks & Recreation or a related field and at least two (2) years of full-time experience in a parks and recreation–related position.
  • Experience with Microsoft computer programs required.
  • Experience with VSI RecTrac preferred.
Immediate Supervisor

The Recreation Supervisor-Athletics, Rentals and Camp is under the direction of the Superintendent of Recreation.

Essential Functions

  1. Actively recruit, train, and monitor the performance of instructors, part-time staff, camp counselors, rental attendants, and coaches.
  2. Provide accurate information and promotional assistance for all programs, camps, sports special events, and rentals through brochures, flyers, website content, and social media. 
  3. Meet weekly with the Superintendent to foster communication and receive assigned tasks.
  4. Compile class proposals and final reports for all programs, rentals, camps, and events; evaluate effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  5. Network with neighboring park districts, schools, rental partners, and community organizations to enhance programming and partnership opportunities.
  6. Inventory and order supplies/equipment for the Recreation Department, including camp, rental, and athletic supplies.
  7. Maintain awareness of current trends in athletic programming, camp services, rentals, and marketing/social media practices.
  8. Prepare budgets, implement programs, and complete reports for all assigned programs, camps, and rentals.
  9. Attend required meetings.
  10. Assist with holiday and seasonal programs, and collaborative activities.
  11. Seek, interpret, and implement input from the public regarding programs, camps, athletics, and rentals.
  12. Assist in long-range planning, goal setting, and program forecasting. Complete quarterly reports and budget analysis; monitor budgets to ensure variances remain within guidelines; propose innovative revenue-generating ideas.
  13. Maintain close contact with participants, renters, parents/guardians, and guests served.
  14. Foster teamwork and communication with residents and all park district employees.
  15. Open and close park district buildings for assigned programs, camps, and rentals.
  16. Plan and schedule staff for programs, camps, rentals, and leagues.
  17. Conduct program, camp, and rental registration and reporting.
  18. Work with the safety coordinator to ensure safe operations of facilities, including camp and rental areas.
  19. Oversee all aspects of summer camps, including planning, staffing, scheduling, parent communication, safety, and daily operations.
  20. Oversee rental use of park district spaces, including scheduling, customer communication, setup, and onsite support.
  21. Other duties as assigned.
Marginal Functions

  1. Maintain a basic working knowledge of all programs, special events, camps, and rentals, or know how to obtain the necessary information.
  2. Assist all employees of the Park District as needed.
Psychological Considerations

The Supervisor may experience pressure from high volumes of inquiries related to programs, camps, rentals, and events. The manager must remain calm, professional, and communicative with patrons.

Physiological Considerations

The supervisor must be able to bend, stoop, lift up to 30 pounds, turn, sit, and stand for short or extended periods.

Environmental Considerations

The supervisor may be exposed to outdoor elements when assisting with programs, camps, rentals, or athletics. Outdoor conditions may include varying lighting and extreme temperatures.

Cognitive Considerations

The supervisor must demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities and sound judgment aligned with the mission of the Park District. Compliance with all loss prevention and safety policies is required.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $45,000-$48,000
  • Status: Full-Time, IMRF Eligible
