Position Summary
Under the direction of the Cultural Arts Manager, the Technical Director is responsible for the oversight and operation of all technical theatre equipment, programming during performances and productions, and direct supervision of Tech I & II.  The Technical Director will work directly with performance and groups in the coordination of their scenic, sound and light needs.  Responsibilities include the administration and coordination of the artistic and technical elements as theatre production manager.

What you will do: 
  • Oversee the day-to-day technical theatre operations of Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center and Fred P. Hall Amphitheater
  • Program sound equipment, lighting equipment, and other technical systems in advance of performances and productions; troubleshoot and resolve problems with production equipment
  • Serve as the lead technical liaison and supervisor for performances and events and lead designer
  • Assess theatre technical equipment needs for repair, maintenance, and/or purchase. 
  • Prepare staff schedules for Cutting Hall and Amphitheater
  • Management of direct reports, including hiring, training, supervision, discipline, motivation, and evaluation.

Minimum Requirements
  • Equivalent to the completion of an associate degree with major coursework in Technical Theatre, Audio Engineering, Scenic Design, Lighting Design, or related field supplemented by coursework or training in Theatre operations/management, performing arts, or a related field.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Audio Engineering, or related field is preferred. 
  • Two years of experience in a lead position performing technical operations in a performing arts facility.  
  • Four (4) to Six (6) minimum years’ experience in related field preferred. 
  • OSHA 30 and ETCP Theatrical Rigging certification is preferred or attainment within the first 18 months as part of employment.

The Hiring Range for this position is $60,000-$68,000 annually.
