Description
JOB SUMMARY: The Parks Crew position is responsible for the general upkeep of District grounds, which includes the operation of equipment used for mowing, landscaping, snow removal, athletic field maintenance, and other related tasks, including manual labor and minor mechanical repairs. The Parks Crew is under the direct supervision of the Parks Foreman. This is an at-will position. Additional duties include:
- Landscape duties (mowing, tree trimming, flower, and plant maintenance, etc.) as directed.
- Perform regularly scheduled and special athletic field maintenance.
- Park clean-up and garbage removal as scheduled.
- Assist with basic mechanical work, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on park district equipment and machinery as needed.
- Park grounds, athletic field, or facility development as scheduled.
- Truck, tractor, and equipment operations as directed.
- Maintain Park District vehicles as scheduled.
- Maintain park buildings as scheduled.
- Perform weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual playground maintenance and repairs.
- Snow and ice removal as required.
- Perform park, playground, building, vehicle, and hazard inspections, reports, and evaluations as scheduled.
- Use proper care and maintenance of equipment.
- Help plan park operations with Park Foreman as needed.
- Work in all types of weather conditions, year-round.
- Follow all required safety procedures and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) accordingly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience in parks and maintenance or a related field is required. Parks maintenance experience and mechanical knowledge, including familiarity with small engines, equipment maintenance, or basic machinery repair, is preferred. Must possess a valid Illinois Driver's License and able to provide own transportation. The position requires the ability to work in all types of weather conditions, year-round, as well as the ability to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) based on job-specific tasks, such as safety goggles/glasses, earplugs and helmets. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds without assistance/75-100 pounds with mechanical assistance and able to bend/twist/squat/climb/reach frequently. Candidates must possess the ability to work independently as well as with a team.
SCHEDULE & PAY: This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Minimum of forty (40) hours per week, Monday-Friday 7:00 am-3:30 pm, plus evenings and weekends as required. Target hiring range - $38,500-$40,000 (annually), DOQ (dependent on qualifications). Full salary for this position is - $38,147-$57,220.
