Trades HVAC Specialist

Under the general direction of the Trades Manager, the Trades Specialist is responsible for performance of construction, maintenance and repair activities to Park District owned assets to meet the department’s goals and objectives. Requires advanced proficiency in HVAC system diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance, along with operational knowledge of electrical distribution, plumbing infrastructure, and structural carpentry systems.  Work may include evenings and weekends as required, support for special events, and other Parks Department duties as assigned. This is a full-time benefited position; overtime will be required as needed.

Essential Functions 
  • Perform all heating and air conditioning projects in accordance with approved regulations, drawings, specifications, and sketches at an advanced level.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on gas fired, electric, forced air, and radiant heating units and hot water circulating pumps, at an advanced level.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to refrigeration units, coolers, freezers, and ice machines at an advanced level. 
  • Conduct general building maintenance such as electrical, plumbing, repairing roofs, doors, windows, and cleaning at an advanced level.
  • Removal of snow from Park District sidewalks, pathways and drives.
  • Interpret and work from sketches, drawings and blueprints.
  • Install and repair all new and existing doors and hardware.
  • Remodel existing park structures at advanced level.
  • Make advanced repairs in all special facilities as directed.
  • Perform both inside and outside construction work as assigned at high level.
  • Perform installation, repair and maintenance of all exterior lighting facilities: baseball fields, tennis courts, pools, and parking lots.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school graduate or G.E.D. supplemented by studies in heating and air conditioning work or vocational schooling
  • Advanced HVAC knowledge
  • 3-5 years’ working experience as a HVAC service technician 
  • Required EPA 608 Universal Certification.
  • Knowledge of swimming pool maintenance preferred
  • Knowledge of general building maintenance, such as repairing windows, doors and door hardware, plumbing, electrical and carpentry
  • Be able to operate basic hand and power tools
  • Valid State of Illinois Class D Driver's License 
  • Certified Pool Operator Certificate is required within 6 months of employment
