Parks Maintenance Laborer

The Clarendon Hills Park District is seeking a motivated and dependable Park Maintenance Laborer to join our Parks Department team. This full-time position plays a vital role in maintaining our parks, facilities, athletic fields, and aquatic facility while helping provide safe, clean, and welcoming spaces for our residents and visitors.

Position Summary
Under the direction of the Executive Director and supervision of the Superintendent of Parks, the Park Maintenance Laborer performs a variety of maintenance, repair, and custodial duties throughout the Park District's parks, facilities, outdoor pool, and grounds.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week with weekend, evening, holiday, and special event work as needed.

September 1 – March 31
  • Monday through Friday
  • 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
April 1 – August 31
  • Tuesday through Saturday
  • 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in park and facility maintenance
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong safety awareness and good judgment
Essential Duties
  • Mow and trim turf areas throughout the Park District
  • Maintain athletic fields, courts, playgrounds, and park buildings
  • Perform daily maintenance and mechanical duties at the outdoor aquatic facility
  • Complete custodial and janitorial tasks in District facilities
  • Remove trash and debris from parks and facilities
  • Operate, maintain, and care for District vehicles and equipment
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and maintain required records
  • Adhere to all Park District policies, procedures, and safety regulations
Additional Responsibilities 
  • Plant and maintain flower beds, trees, shrubs, and landscaped areas
  • Assist with painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical projects
  • Conduct park, facility, vehicle, and equipment inspections
  • Perform maintenance and repair of District equipment
  • Assist with snow and ice removal operations and ice rink maintenance
  • Support special events and facility set-ups
  • Attend job-related training and professional development opportunities
  • Obtain CPR/First Aid certification and additional certifications as required
Working Conditions
This position requires outdoor work in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice. Employees may be exposed to chemicals, equipment noise, dust, and other environmental conditions associated with park maintenance operations.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, and carrying
  • Ability to lift and move materials and equipment with assistance when necessary
  • Ability to work independently for extended periods
Safety Requirements
  • Support and follow all Park District safety policies and procedures
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Report unsafe conditions promptly
  • Pass a criminal background check and driver's abstract review
  • Obtain CPR and First Aid certifications
