FITNESS/AQUATIC and ADULT RECREATION SUPERVISOR
Distinguishing Features of Work:
Under general direction from the Superintendent of Recreation, directly supervises all aspects of the Forum Fitness Center, Hap Parker Family Aquatic Center, Adult Recreation programs and other Rantoul Recreation Department activities as assigned.
Illustrative Examples of Work:
Supervises the daily activities and staff at the Forum Fitness Center. Performs recruiting, hiring, training and supervising of part time staff, evaluating individual performance and planning the work schedules. Assists in establishing rules and regulations for the safety and welfare of members and staff; oversees the use of equipment and the maintenance and housekeeping of the center; develops written procedures manual. Coordinates, promotes and conducts activity center programs and consults with individuals and groups to determine their interests and needs; arranges and schedules facility rentals. Instructs staff on the proper use of equipment to assist members. Coordinates with other full time staff members on building usage for other recreation department activities.
Supervises the seasonal activities at the Hap Parker Family Aquatic Center. Performs the hiring and training of seasonal part time staff, scheduling of part time staff, scheduling of all aquatic center events/programs, preparing work orders for facility maintenance staff, and complying with all state regulations for safe and sanitary operations.
Supervises adult recreation programs including softball, basketball, volleyball, racquetball and any other trending adult activity that may be offered. Hire and train officials and scorekeepers to oversee the games; develop league schedules, supervise individual programs and help with the maintenance of fields/courts as necessary; recruit sponsors in the business community for support.
Maintains and submits accurate financial, personnel, inventory, safety, payroll and program service records to the Superintendent; may require handling of cash/checks on a daily basis; works with existing computer system to prepare marketing materials, forms, and inventory control.
Develops, presents, markets and evaluates activity program advantages to the general public and attends community and service club meetings as needed; attends all necessary staff and public meetings and works with civic groups to develop programs.
Develops, markets and administers sales promotions for the Forum Fitness Center, Hap Parker Family Aquatic Center and other recreation department activities as assigned. This includes membership recruitment and retention, following up on membership satisfaction and membership renewals. Recruit and sell individual and group memberships, including corporate membership packages. Develop relationships with area medical and rehabilitation professionals and promote wellness components.
Requisitions routine supplies and materials, reviews and maintains inventory and recommends the purchase of capital equipment.
Performs other duties as required or assigned and has the ability to work in a team setting with other full time staff to achieve recreation department goals.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Business Administration, Kinesiology or equivalent Degree from an accredited university, or 5 years of progressive managerial experience in the recreation field.
• May prefer Red Cross LGIT/WSI certifications. • May prefer NSPF CPO(Certified Pool Operator) certification. • May prefer A.C.E., A.C.S.M. or C.S.C.S certifications. • May prefer certified food handlers certification. • May prefer knowledge of general office procedures, budget preparation and implementation. • Requires ability to obtain, within 90 days of employment, and maintain, throughout employment, a current certification in CPR, Red Cross First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator. • Requires possession of a valid Illinois Vehicle Operator’s License in the appropriate classification required by law with ability to obtain CDL with passenger endorsement. • Requires ability to be self-motivated and work as a part of a team to achieve department goals as well as working independently without direct supervision. • Must possess strong interpersonal and public relations skills. • Requires ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. • Requires a thorough understanding and knowledge of municipal recreation. • Requires ability to supervise and maintain an efficient operation. • Requires ability to successfully present activity programs to the general public. • Requires organizational skills and the ability to maintain a variety of diverse activities simultaneously. • Requires ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relations with Village staff.

Selected applicant will be required to live within a twenty mile radius of the corporate limits of Rantoul within six months after the completion of a six month probationary term. A post-offer drug screen will be required of the selected applicant.
